Tirailleur in hell

This one was started a long time ago . I just finished it . It is a French tirailleur in Verdun during WW1 .
These troops are wearing the same outfit as the poilou's but in a different colour .
The model is from John Smith modelbau . I changed the head and aded a bit of realism to the scenery .
The scenery is included in the kit , exept from the wooden plank and the barbed wire .
All is done with oils and acrilycs .
The mud is done using a mixture of MIG powders and glossy varnis .

ps the new one from JSM has been posted here a while ago ; its a 120 mm resin figure .Showing a German officer in his trench . Highly detailed well casted.

Marc - Extremely well done! I'm not a painter, so I can't comment on the shading or whatever, but the uniform and insignia colors look spot on for "moutarde khaki", as this uniform combination was known. Would the collar and sleeve piping have been in the same color as the unit insignia on the collar? Or possibly just light yellow? I checked my references and I have photos showing the piping in light yellow, but not on the great coat, only on the shorter double-breasted coat. I also like the head you used - good fit to the vignette. My only quibble - and it's a small one and based on personal preference mostly - I would prefer a lot more mud on the figure, especially the lower edges of the great coat, the knees of the trousers, and the putties and boots. One more point - apparently many of the French Colonial troops had personal weapons that they brought from home - very large single-sided knives like machetes mostly. So - again, just a suggestion - you could add that for more "authenticity". Again - very well done!

I really like what i see. Great painted figure, maybe to clean. When i see the trench, looking at his age, he is there more then one hour. So, a little mud on the man couldt do no harm. Your trench is awesome.

Dan : I've got my info from militaria ( a uniform magazine ) it shows reenactment groups with these uniforms . The overcoats are all over the same color. I had no reference with yellow piping there .

Mud : spending hours painting this little guy I always have trouble to add to much dirt on it . I know it brings a lot of realism to the subject .
But this one is going into a painting competition .
Maybe the pictures are not that clear, but at the bottom of the overcoat and on his legs there is mud , but in a modest way .
