An old friend's son was ensign at last year's Trooping the Colour:

I have already done GSM Mott and a Scots Guards corporal:

The former has been a steady success but the latter a disappointment.

I was going to do the Ensign, probably with belt but holding a drawn sword rather than the Colour (i.e.Ensign for, not to, the Colour), but am now undecided whether or not to go ahead:

I have got so far (held together with Bluetac), and have to decide whether to bin it, or complete the figure for Gordon to cast. He already has a 200mm Royal Marine corporal of mine to fit in but his Roll Call and Hougement ranges have kept him very busy!!

Advice please.

Mike

P.S. apologies for the dreadful photography.

Hi Mike, Can I get in touch re a Commission?

Regards

Gary

Agreed, but painting Colours is as likely to put modellers off buying the figure as not, and the figure has to be a (limited) commercial viability in order for Gordon to mould and cast it in the first place. Hence my hesitation in proceding.

At the risk of getting tarred and feathered, but if painting such a large and difficult item as a flag, with all the honours, would be a turn off for many, would the inclusion of a decal/transfer be a solution?

Certainly might be, in which case a plain Colour with no raised parts would be required. I suspect the cost of decals/transfers would be uneconomical unless a reasonable number of kits could be sold. For some reason modern Brigade of Guards figures are not great sellers compared to French Napoleonic and WW II Nazis.

I'm currently close to finishing another Colour, the first Ensign and Colour went to the family of the young officer concerned.
