JGREEN
A Fixture
Jim,
Greetings! You've been so helpful and open with your techniques on this site that it would be my pleasure to help you any way I can. I noticed in Dave's thread about his lancer trumpeter you asked for his formula for gold lace. I'm currently working on a figure with a lot of gold lace and here is the "recipe" I've developed using Vallejo for gold lace. For the base, use black (950), german camo black-brown (822), red leather (818), and desert yellow (977). For the highlights, add golden yellow. Shadows are just a darker version of the base using more black and german camo black-brown. Judicious use of very high highlights (creating a lot of contrast) will give it that reflective, metallic look. I'm a die hard oil painter but I think acrylics are the best medium in this case. Hope this works for you!
P.S. Did you ever finish your 75 MM Hussar from Pegaso? From the WIP photos it was a real beauty!
Jason
