Wow, I definitely do NOT think that our member "MarquisMini"
overstated the case. Indeed, just a beautiful presentation in
every phase. And lovely photographs as well. What an
atmosphere this work creates. Congratulations,

The Miami Jayhawk
Thank you so much! I tried to create a certain atmosphere (dark, dirty) around him and I'm glad that you like it!
Cheers,

Zeno,
Well done my friend. The final presentation is beautiful, the ground work is outstanding and your backstory research is a great addition, as always.
Having seen this piece partially complete, in the flesh, I can testify that the metals are outstanding... the pics don't do them justice.

I guess I'll be up against this one in Ajax in the mounted catagory... eek!

Cheers

Colin
Thanks my friend! I'm glad that you like it!
Yes, you will be up against this one in Ajax but it wont be easy. Your mounted figs are super. Most important is that we all get together and have fun around nice painted displays.
Cheers mate and speedy recovery!

Wow Zeno - I love it. You have really jumped ahead in ALL your skills. This is the first time I have seen this. I am ashamed to say that I did not look until now as Medievals aren't my bag. But this is really nice. Maybe i will give Ajax another try.....Congrats.

BTW - oil or acrylic?

Thank you Colin! Glad that you like it! It will be great if you will give Ajax another try.

I used oils and acrylics. Let me give you few examples:
The black cape - acrylics from base coat to weathering.
The white tunic - oils over an acrylic base. In fact, it is more than an acrylic base. I'm painting in acrylics a draft with lights and shadows and I'm finishing it in oils.
Metals - I'm staining the burnished or brushed metal with oils. Helmet was burnished; the chain mail and the scale armour was brushed. On big surfaces, like helmets and armours, I'm trying to avoid painting metal figurines with metallic paints. I use them for small parts and surfaces.
A kind of a "kitchen sink" type of techniques and paints. I have more fun in this way then staying with acrylics or oils only. The challenge is to blend the results obtained with different techniques into one single object. It's fun.
Cheers,
Zeno

And the Zeno style is born. I really like seeing individual styles emerge. Great job so far.

There's a technique for every application/situation so it's not uncommon to use different techniques on one model... especially one with so many different "surfaces" involved.
Combining all these techniques has made sure that all the areas of your fig look great.

Bravo for having an open mind and not being a slave (or a snob) to one medium. Hat's off for being able to master all these different techniques :notworthy:
