Hi Guys,

Just had pics of these three busts, which will be available soon, direct from Gordon Mitchell, at [email protected].

1/9 scale resin, they depict a Sergeant Instructor, Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers, 1860 (kepi), Sergeant, Artist's Rifles, 1900 (helmet) and an Austrian Jaeger, 1866.

Thanks for looking,

Steve(y)

Really nice busts.I believe artists and rifles became 23rd SAS.T.A or i might be off on a tangent.

Thanks chaps! I think youre right about that, Richard.

The 2nd and 5th Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers were designated the 1st and 2nd Volunteer battalions, North Staffordshire Regiment, in 1883 and later became 5th battalion North Staffs Rgt.(y)

Hi Guys - I thought it may be useful to provide some colour details for the Staffs Rifle Volunteers bust, as it is difficult to research. The kepi is grey/green, with black peak, very dark brown chinstrap, black silk lacework and a black wool pompom. The tunic is grey/green with rifle green facings, black piping and lace, black silk twist epaulettes. The cross belt is very dark brown, with blackened brass fittings and badge. The pickers and chain were silver. Cap badge is also blackened brass, as are buttons. Vallejo Green Grey 70.886 is an almost perfect match for the grey green tunic and cap.

When the Staffs Rifle Volunteers were first raised in the 1860s, the facing colours were different, dependant on where they were based across the major towns in Staffordshire. The only records I can trace are that Newcastle had purple, Hanley had black and Burton on Trent were Dark Blue. Within a year of being raised, it was decreed that ALL units were to adopt Rifle Green. Admittedly, not the most colourful uniform, but striking, nonetheless!

I hope this helps!(y)
