Hi Stu

Good to see Stormtroopers releasing , and nice to see this subject being done , sculpting looks great and casting will be the same no doubt

Do like the camels pose

A very nice release that looks like it's already selling like hot cakes.

Not really my era but I might be tempted by the mounted figure when he becomes available separately.

Very cool. Although I would love to see kits representing the other side of the war. I’ve seen pictures of some miniature artist who made several pieces/dioramas showing Mahdi fighters. They look cool.

Edit. Not knocking the release btw. I think it’s awesome. I’m very interested in this conflict but outside of a small Osprey book I have been unable to find much to read on the subject which is surprising giving the importance of the war. If anyone knows of any books that cover the war please let me know. I’m hesitant to potentially waste my time reading Churchill’s account since I assume there is heavy bias and my time is limited. What I love about the figure hobby is I always take a mini, owned or not and ponder the dates they would be placed in. 1885 would coincide with both victory and defeat for the British. The Mahdists themselves are fascinating since the Mahdi leader claimed to be exactly that, the Mahdi or “expected one” in Islamic tradition. His followers believed it and that morale boost absolutely played a big role in their army’s initial victories. Such a wild background for a modern war.

A few book's covering all or part of this era: Omdurman by Phillip Ziegler (may be out-of-print; Beyond the Reach of Empire [author's name eludes me]; The First Jihad [this one may be an American reprint from an edition with a different title; Dervish (this might be by Ziegler as well). The River War by Churchill is Anglo-centric but nonetheless a fine exposition of the campaign. Oh yeah, there's another one, Prisoner of the Mahdi, a true tale that might be the basis for the classic novel/film "The Four Feathers."

I can more than highly recommend "Khartoum: The Ultimate Imperial Adventure" by the English desert explorer Michael Asher, which was published in 2006 and covers the story of the fall of Khartoum, the Gordon Relief Expedition and the reconquest of the Sudan.

And, of course, the old classic "The Last Charge: The 21st Lancers and the Battle of Omdurman. 2 September 1898" by Terry Brighton with colour plates by Douglas N. Anderson. This one is available 2nd hand every now and again, e.g. here on the fleabay.

Unfortunately mandi don't sell,,,I know because I made a bust of one. Sad but true.
I will try to find the book I use for this campaign. The ones mentioned are much to late for this period.
Cheers

Just received my 75mm Camel Corps figures in the mail - all the way to Australia with not a scratch or breakage :)

As expected, the casting and detail are flawless. Couldn't spot any flash or obvious mold lines, and nicely cast separate parts for smaller details. Still getting up the courage to paint them, but planning a diorama with them and a few other figures.

Thanks Stu for the perfect figures just as I needed them, and fast posteage.
