New for July 2014 from Tommy's War
The 1/10 bust series from Tommy's War has been developed to highlight unusual units or battles from the World War One period. When we think of the Great War we naturally think of the horrors of the Western Front, but the war was fought over a number of theaters inside and outside Europe.
Following the success of bust 1 in the series this figure (bust 2) represents the South Wales Borderers. As well as the Wolseley helmet version (worn in China, Gallipoli and the Middle East) a brodie helmet option is included in the set to allow the figure to represent an officer on the Western Front.
This bust is a quality 1/10 resin model kit in three parts sculpted by the outstanding Antonio Meseguer. The kit is packed in a high quality full colour box with a brass rod to mount the figure on to a plinth.
Box art is by Alex Varela (Iguazzu Artstudio), it is hoped that a full step-by-step guide to how he painted the figure will be published in the Scale Model Handbook series of books by Mr Black Publications.
Note: the box art shows the figure in tropical uniform, in his book 'Clash of Empires' (Bridge Books 2008, ISBN: 978-1844-9405-23) author John Dixon shows officers of the 2nd SWB in both 'tropical' and 'serge' (the darker, heavier material more associated with the European theatre). Therefore, both light and dark uniform could be painted. However, if the modeller chooses the Brodie helmet option then I would suggest the darker European uniform would be appropriate. (the Brodie helmet was not worn in Tsingtao nor Gallipoli, but if the figure was painted to depict one of the South Wales Borderer Battalions in Western Europe from 1916 then it would be correct.)
The medal ribbon shown is the Queens South Africa, indicating the Regiment's role in the Boer War.
Alternative Brodie helmet (shown with tropical uniform, but for would have been worn with serge 'European' uniform).
The figure is available now at www.tommyswar.com and will also be available at Figureworld in Oundle on Saturday.
