I mix the traditional 50/50 mix, but would like to slow down the cure rate a bit. What mix do you use that still allows it to cure completely, but yet allows a little more working time?~Gary

Hey Gary!

With Magic Schulpt I use more of the Resin then the Hardener. Maybe 55-60 Resin to 45-40 Hardener. This will give you a "brushable" working time of about 45 min to an hour. What I mean by brushable is that it smoothes the putty when you use a brush on it, after this time it seams to become 'pigmenty' when you brush it. Hope this is of some help :)

I actually do the exact opposite... maybe 2/3 Hardener to 1/3 Resin. The working time is obviously less, but I think that it smooths much easier than the 50/50 ratio. For me, they end up being shorter, but more productive sessions.

using milliput: i keep it at the labeled 50/50 any more working time and i'd keep tweaking and tweaking and never get aything done, like Francesca says helps to keep productive!

plus the variances while it hardens offers different stages or working...

very soft - good for pushing around and spreading
firm - good for fold work
veryfirm - good for chopping and lopping for clean tight cuts while still holding shape
cured - good for scooping and carving

What I usually do is: after working on the Magic Sculpt for a while ( say, 20 to 25 mins mins ) but not too sure if I am satisfy with it and would like to work on it later, I would put the piece in my freezer. This would slow than the curing time much longer and I had pieces workable even after 2 or 3 days.

Francesca & Gordy, Thanks. I'm working on the trousers for my 1/16 scale German tanker and seeing that they are being done in Magicsculpt they present me with a bit of a challenge. Sculpey would have be easier but I wanted to see what I could do with the putty instead.

Vince, I like the idea of the freezer and will experiment with that..

Again thanks for all the suggestions.~Gary

Gary,

I sometimes kneal more putty than I need and I also put the mixed putty in the freezer for later use too.

Hope this will help.
