Coming along really nicely Nigel; can't wait to see them all posted around the aircraft.
Glad you feel you're getting to grips with acrylics. I found it a really steep learning curve coming from an enamel/oil paint background, but the more I use them the more I enjoy them. Must remember to have a chat about complimentary colours when we next get together which I think you might find helpful for shading. :)

Cheers for now
Paul

Thanks a lot Paul, I do feel like I'm making progress.

Any help appreciated! I bought Gurney's "Colour and Light" as recommended by RJ and am starting to try to use more colour theory (it's not easy for a non-artist!). But I fell down on the buff, because that's not obvious on the colour wheel........

I've finished the observer. I added some more shading to the coat and added a wash of Citadel "Snakebite Leather" contrast colour which has toned down the orange a bit. The fug boots were hard, partly because they have been overpainted three times. But the end result is ok IMO, good enough for a vignette.

Finally, here are the pilot and observer together. Can anyone answer the quiz question - why is the vignette going to be called "In the same boat now"......?

I will post some more photos in the completed section when I have finished the vignette.

Nice progress Nigel, they both look really good. The Snakebite Leather (do they still.make that because I found it so useful in many situations) has made the jacket look brilliant and the boots are really good. They look soft and really warm as they are supposed to be. The observer looks good too.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon. Yes, Citadel do still make Snakebite Leather (it's now a contrast paint), like you I find it really useful.

And any thoughts on the quiz question......?;)

Oh yes, I meant to mention that, I swear I'd forget my head if it wasn't sewn on. The simple answer is no I haven't a clue, I did think it might be something to do with operating in coastal defence but I don't know enough about this period.

Hi Nigel

Those fellows look really good , both full of character, going to look great with the plane

As for question ...looking at figs can’t think of any reason ...is it something to do with their flying machine ?

Looking forward more

Happy benchtime

Quiz question first - it's nothing to do with the plane or the arm of service, it's to do with articles of clothing they are both wearing (it's quite subtle....., maybe too subtle.....). And it may not be too apparent to people with a Northern background....;):)

I confused myself regarding snakebite leather. I forgot they had discontinued what they call the "base layer" ie solid paint. It's the contrast paint they still do, which I find really helpful to give a nice leather sheen over acrylic underpainting.

Must be something to do with having to wear their big coats then!

I'll look at the Citadel paints next time I'm near a gaming type shop.

Cheers Simon
