I am doing a union officer and as its out of my normal NAP, ROMAN AND VIKING STUFF

Can any throw some light on this. Did any officers wear black or dark brown leather gauntlets ,
all I can find is white or buff re the internet.

"Any officers" in that sized Army would probably mean that you are ok with the dark mitts. No one recorded all of 'em, so little chance of being "wrong" and providing bait for the circling sharks. As in the British army, officers provided their own kit.

Cheers I thought as much , would his own supply stretch to a French cavalry sabre as the one supplied with the kit is totally naff

Just had a thought on the matter. Gauntlets were not issue until after the Civil War. I think Hollywood has influenced figures a bit on that count. So, pretty much impossible to be wrong.

Thats interesting , Hollywood has pretty much changed the perception of early American history .
Thanks for all the input , the figure now has black gauntlets :D
