"Any officers" in that sized Army would probably mean that you are ok with the dark mitts. No one recorded all of 'em, so little chance of being "wrong" and providing bait for the circling sharks. As in the British army, officers provided their own kit.
Just had a thought on the matter. Gauntlets were not issue until after the Civil War. I think Hollywood has influenced figures a bit on that count. So, pretty much impossible to be wrong.
You'll get away with almost anything as long as it looks reasonable, to to extent the same with footwear as well.
