Hello Friends
I have in my hands one of the latest release from the well known Spain company Heroes & Villains Miniatures of Fernando Ruiz (also well known for his box art paintings). It is a figure of a German Paratrooper, in the Battle of Crete 1941 in 1/24th scale. Some history for the figure….
Historical Notes From The Website of the Company:
“After the invasion of Greece by the Axis forces, the German High Command realized that they would also need to occupy the island of Crete, in order to protect several vital areas that were reachable by the large British forces garrisoned there and deprive the Royal Navy of an important base of operations.
Some Luftwaffe commanders planned a dare operation to conquest the island with airborne troops that was enthusiastically received by Hitler. The idea was to capture quickly several airfields and key points for the landing of additional troops that would allow securing the island.
The plan was a success but paid a high cost. The island counted with lots of Allied troops and the British Intelligence Service had already discovered the attack plan before they launched it. That allowed to reinforce the objectives of the parachutists and also evacuate most of the Allied troops once it was clear that the battle was lost.
Operation Mercury was the first big scale airborne action in history, but meant such high losses for the German forces that they never thought again such kind of attack. Nevertheless, the Allies took note of the results of this operation and applied them in the massive airborne landings that preceded the D-Day in June 1944.
The miniature is based on a fallschirmjäger from this campaign, but the uniform is suitable to any other action of these troops in the first part of the war.”

I have heard a lot of excellent words about the quality of company’s products but I have to admit that I was totally impressed when I saw this figure in front of my eyes! It is casted in High Quality Grey Resin (10 pieces). The only thing that you need to do is to remove the small molding blocks and go for painting. There are no molding lines or air bubbles!!! It is really very impressive! The surface of this grey resin is very nice and clean with very crispy detail and the sculpting of Eduard Perez is awesome! I am sure that all you will agree that the casting and sculpting quality are of the best in the market. I hold it in my hands and I just cannot wait to paint it!! Take a look at the following photos for more information and personal evaluation. I have also included the 10 Awesome Box Art Photos made by Jaume Ortiz in lowest resolution from what the website offers to have an idea. But you can use also these from here directly to have a complete painting guide reference!

It's that rather weird doll-like / Mekon-esque face again that Mr. Perez does on all his sculpts.

The rest of the figure is very nicely done, and the paint-job by Mr. Ortiz is top-drawer. But the face totally ruins it for me.

I'd have to swap out that head. Sorry!

I agree the head puts me off, reminds me of a Thunderbird puppet
Maybe the hands look big as well, something not right!

Hi all
As I posted its a super figure great sculpt ,awesome painting .i think the issue that people might see is that it does not fit the overwhelming amount of German figures that are on the market ,I mean that in the sense that it does not seem to some people to fit the perfect proportioned features that are are constantly churned out to represent fighting men, do his features look unusual ..yes they do with regard to the hands I do not sculpt might be camera angle .
I am sure there were many German infantary soldiers that didn't look like they just came off the " Boss after shave advert 6'3 chiseled chin etc,
I think it's quite refreshing to see. A sculpt that depicts all aspects of the infantary soldier be it equipment and physical appearance .
Attached some pics

Nice one Chris, You've picked some real ugly buggers there to prove your point mate, I think this kit in question is well sculpted & crisply casted, so what if he looks a bit like the kid with the banjo from deliverance, but then why not! (y)
Cheers
Jim
