On the 21st August 1915 the men of the Warwickshire Yeomanry (2nd Mounted Division, 1st South Midland mounted brigade) were sent into battle with orders to capture Scimitar Hill (70) Gallipoli.

Sent into battle about 6pm as a second wave against the 12th/34th Infantry Regiment Yusufçuk Tepe (Turkish forces). Leaping from the trenches of Chocolate Hill the Yeomanry ran; the brush on fire and choking smoke in the air, set light from allied ship bombardment, then from artillery from the defending Ottoman forces. Those brave men ran into the flames, many to be killed and wounded in needless slaughter including my uncle.

The scene is significant for me, my Great Great Uncle L/CL Robert Lidzy is buried at a Green Hill cemetery near Scimitar Hill, with the grave inscription “Until The Day Break” requested by his widow.

The Diorama is created using a mix of 1/35 ICM and Miniart figures resculpted with Hornet heads, with base and details scratch built.

Hi Marcus

What can I say except thanks for sharing not only the great modelling but sharing the family connection

It's been said but the groundwork works well

A tribute to brave men running through hell into hell

indeed, I’m being given a private tour of the Warwickshire Yeomanry museum in a couple of weeks, really looking forward to that and hopefully making more of a connection with my late uncle.

Fabulous for you ..if possible do share the day and exhibits

ENJOY it

I will be taking photos and will post if that’s okay, I’m hoping to do a depiction of the charge at Huj (1917) the Warwickshire’s played a significant part in that historic event so will be a research visit also.
