Nice looking fig. As ZC said above, the original was a pic of a Marine, I believe on Guadacanal. To be 100 percent correct (should you care about such trivial things), the boots would need to change, the guy in the pic is wearing the usual Marine "boondockers" ankle high boots with leggings.Helmets with net were quickly discarded in the Pacific, it too closely resembled Japanese helmets (which frequently had nets )and could get ones head blown off. I don't believe Marines ever used the helmet net to begin with, more an Army thing. Fairly easy changes.

This does look like a nice figure in deed but sadly my anorak makes me point out a few discrepancy's
The picture is of a G.I. Infantryman and not a Marine this is easily noticeable by his HBT jacket, the one he is sculpted in is the Army M42 pattern were as a Marine at the same period in time wore the 3 pocket P41 uniform (very different in looks). The trouser belt would be an open frame one for enlisted men and not an officers solid brass one. Dogtags to are the Army version as the Marines is the same as the U.S. Navy one and circular/oval. Boots should be reverse leather low quarter roughouts with leggings and not high topped like 'jump boots'. Helmets tended to be without helmet nets (nets being more an ETO look) and after Guadalcanal USMC issued Camo helmet covers to all there men. And lastly the U.S.Army used M1 rifles on Guadalcanal as in the figure where as the USMC still used the out dated M1903 Springfield bolt action rifles not getting the M1 rifle till after the battle there.
Hope I have not upset to many people with this post

Good call Web 1. I missed the dog tags. As noted, the boots and helmet netting are out of place regardless. Don't worry about upsetting people if you are pointing out errors or details, most people will appreciate the info, ignore the rest.

Thanks JasonB I'm pretty new back to modelling and it was information like I posted that stopped me from modelling way back in the 1970's and start to collect the uniforms I wrote about, now i have come full circle and having sold my collection back modelling again. If any ne out there would like information on WW2 uniforms I'm very happy to give information. Oh yes and as previously noted the helmet chinstrap is most definitely wrong !

Fear not, we are all anoraks on here (as my good lady is always reminding me!) :joyful:

I very much doubt that you have. Informed knowledge is always welcome, it's just when guys come on here waving their willies (so to speak) and making out that they're the fountain of all wisdom that people's cages get rattled (fortunately though that doesn't happen too often). It's all about how you put across the info that you're offering, and as far as I'm concerned at least, you hit the right note. The hobby is a broad church, we can all fret over accuracy as much or as little as we want to, but also learn some useful stuff from each other.

Welcome aboard!

Good catches by all, however, the Marine Corps did get its' hands on the Garand in small quantities before they left the "Canal". So if one wanted to convert the Soldier to a Marine by removing the netting (or subbing out the head with one that didn't have netting), changing the pattern of dog-tags, and most importantly getting rid of the Model 1917 U.S. Enfield bayonet and replacing it with the correct bayonet from an '03 Springfield, it could be done in one setting. Modifying the H/B utilities from Army pattern to Marine Corps pattern would be nice also, but after two to three months on Guadalcanal their original ute's could very possibly been replaced by newer ones re-allocated (read stolen) from Army stores after they started landing late in the campaign.

Other than the few items listed above, a great looking figure in a manageable scale for my Mk I eyeballs.
