It is a usable way to pose a default human form, but you are going to need sculptris and a couple of other apps to make it work. See the sticky subject at the top of this forum for a list of some good free software.

I do not count this into sculpting category, but there is also open source and free software for creating human forms:

I used makehuman instead of "wooden posing puppet" for my polymer clay exercises.

There are several file formats that printers can load, and also many of ways for converting from one to another.
There are many ways for printing DAZ figure - no technical problems there ;)
BUT, such prepared human forms are published with copyright, You can't do what You want with them.
I'm pretty sure DAZ does not allow printing - but You should check their copyright.
Check for example this part of Shapeways terms of use:

User Generated Content
The term “User Generated Content” when used in this Terms and Conditions shall mean any content uploaded to the Website by you, including but not limited to all uploaded 3D designs, pictures of your 3D objects, pictures of any model, comments on the Website, specifications provided in your order for a CoCreator model, as well as the printed model we create for you based on your User Generated Content.
All User Generated Content should not be or contain abusive, harassing, threatening, defamatory, obscene, fraudulent, deceptive, misleading, offensive, pornographic, illegal or unlawful information or be likely to infringe or infringing on any intellectual property rights.
Intellectual property rights means copyright, patent, registered design, design right, trademark, trade secret or any other proprietary or industrial right.

So, if You plan to print or make copies of Your piece, you should start from the "ball" and not use any of prepared content - except the content You created Yourself ;)

Sorry, my English is bad, but I hope You got the point ;)

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info.
pokrad, not planning on using the DAZ files for a figure, was just wondering if those files were usable with the 3D printing hardware. I have a few colleagues that currently produce cgi models etc. for various applications as well as sell independently. For one offs, I see the DAZ forms as a pretty viable resource. I have no interest in selling the 3D images or getting into the commercial side of the hobby. Its still fun as a hobby, why ruin the fun with trying to make a living at it? ;)
RKapuaala thanks. I currently have Poser. But I'm trying to expand my resources and education in this format.
