I always liked this Life Miniatures bust and finally got around to buying it.
Scale is 1:10, and depicts a soldier of the USMC 1st Division at Guadalcanal in 1942.
It's mainly painted in acrylics, apart from the flesh, leather rifle sling and rifle stock which are in oils over enamels.
All comments, good or bad (I have a thick skin) are welcome.

Hi Andrew

Looks good but what's happening with his right eye ...has he lost it ?

Like the unformed colour and the leather work on the strap

Thanks for sharing

Nice job, Andrew - will it be at Avon later this year?(y)

I'm pleased you liked him Steve.
The club's not at Avon, but I'll be visiting after dropping SWMBO at Cribbs.
He will be on display at the Plymouth Show on 30 June, and almost certainly at the Bristol Show.
See you at Thornbury.

Cheers,
Andrew

Like the way you managed to convey a sweaty humid look! Superb!

Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment Benny.
The sweaty look is more by good luck than good management.
Normally, I put my oils on a pad of toilet paper (I can't be bothered to use card and wait) before transferring to the palette.
This time the paints didn't look too oily so I by-passed the toilet paper.
I'm now waiting for Sod's Law to take effect, and the paint to matt down.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Kevin,
Wrt the eye .... you try squinting in the direction of the sun.
I was totally baffled by the boxart, which appears to show the right eye as a slit at the top.
My eyelids works from the top, and try as I might, I couldn't achieve that effect. My eyelid always closed down.
So that's the effect I went for.
Let me know if (and how) you can manage it, without over-squinting the left eye.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew

Never thought of squinting ....mind you should have as he looks very sweaty from the heat!

Hi Kevin,

Thought you'd 'squint it' my way.

Cheers,
Andrew
