Hello Sikander,
Thanks for the link. I knew already Vuksic, he drawn some images for the italian magazine "Soldatini". He is a good drawer and not only for Napoleonics, I remember some ACW figures (as the 1st Virgina cavalry that Dani was looking for in this site), then some Austro Hungary Pandurs, Prussian Infantry of Frederic, Polish Winged Hussars, Jannissaires, but, as you see, no comments here about his work. It's the same history, all modelers study the right light to paint, the best colours and techniques to use, the anatomy, but the sources are too much often ignored.
Greetings to Vuksic from Italy

Vuksic

Hello,

Vuksic has been around for some time - besides the works cited, Vuksic illustrated several articles in "Military Illustrated", in the early 90's, I think when that magazine was still edited by Martin Windrow (that is, the good era of the magazine). Those were mainly from Eastern Europe subjects.

A military history artist is as good as his sources (or his advisors), and I have found problems with accuracy in some of Vuksic's work, even if from an artistic point of view he may excel - in the books mentioned for instance, which have great plates but are not to be considered uniformology works (and in fact look like based on secondary work). This said, the greater part of plates are correct (it would seem some were based on not-so-good secondary work). It is the same in the website, note no sources or commentaries are included; so I recommend exercising some care and use some additional bibliography.

Besides that, I agree with Marcellin's remarks on the main interests of the average figure modeller. I would add that, with the advent of the Internet, many modellers tend to rely just on it -in many posts related to research, people asks directly for websites; or they use the search engines- neglecting the fact that you have to be familiarized with the matter in order to filter what is really valuable (of which there is much) and what it is not (of which there is much more).

Regards,

Dani

Hello to all,
Yes, it's really right, even if a good drawer, Vuksic made some mistakes on his drawings, or following bad sources, or using a little his fantasy on some details. But he remembers me some sculptors or painters working on all times of history. May they have the knowledge of all historical periods, uniforms, dressing, details, weapons? Really not...The problem is, as said Dani, that many artists often trust of an image seen anywhere, drawn or painted by a famous author too, without looking for another source in confirmation, better two. On another thread I said how many mistakes are in famous paintings or engravings made also by famous artists, included Detaille or David in Napoleonic theme. An actual modeler (as someones celebrated that I know) falls in love with one of these famous paintings and copies the mistakes made before. Besides the images, it's very important study the texts confirming the fantasy of painters and drawers.
Best Regards
M
