Gray,

That's a very generous offer you've made. Unfortunately, I have no suggestions at the moment but chances are pretty good that I'd take advantage of whatever you come up with. One day soon, I'll expand my horizons & experiment with oils or enamels but for now, I'm most comfortable with Vallejos. I need to add to or replenish my supply so I'm looking forward to March. I do have one question tho, what exactly are the glazes that Vallejo offers? How are they used?

Mike

Gray,

I use these paints already, and really like them. Are you dealing in the brushes as well. If so, I would consider a free "0" brush with purchase of a paint pack or equivalent.

I use the Vallejo Acrylics. I have some ideas about this issue:

- The packs. Probably the better way for offering packs is to make packs related with themes: WWII Germans (Europe), Afrikakorps colors, USA colors, Napoleon colors, etc. Also is very usefull a pack with the main colors.

- Individual bottles. I thinks it is also very usefull. The problem is how to give disccounts related with this case. Does not exists only ne solution but I think the better way is to give disccounts for number of bottles purchased. In example you can give disscounts for packs of 5 bottles, packs of 10 bottles, 15, 20, and so on. Doing that you mach the concept of pack with the concept of bottles (I hope make me understandable)

About the type of disccount it can be all money disscount or also a mix between money and gifts (brush, in example).

Also can be very usefull try to do a crosselling aproach if you offer the possibility of getting disccounts in buying a figure when you buy a vallejo pack or disccounts in vallejo packs when you buy a figure.

I hope this help,

Rafa

I like Rafaels idea of giving discounts on individual bottle sales ie. buy 4 get one free type thing...

I use them already and would buy individual bottles if the deal was good. Unfortunatly, for you, my local shop carries them so I don't have to deal with the shipping costs.

I got in to using acrylics when MTS (I think) had a cost reduction on the packs. I bought one of the German WW2 packs at a good cost and never looked back (on enamels, that is...)

Rafael,
Vallejo paints already come in "theme" packs: USA/Allied WWII, German WWII, German Camo WWII, Basic, Groundwork, Fleshtones, Equestrian, Napoleonic, Fantasy/Wargame, etc.

Of course I know about the vallejo packs, but I supose that all Vallejo packs do not match the painter criteria. Perhaps another packs can be created. My Vallejo colors card only shows 14 packs: folkstone basics, folkstone specials, wargames, high elves, orcs&goblins, non dead.chaos, WWII german, panzer, WWII allied, napoleonics, american civil war, wargames and also "german camouflaje" packs.
We can also create i.e. a "Vietnam pack". Are there more packs in other countries?

I do not know how these "offcial Vallejo packs" are being sold in USA and another countries, but in Spain (my country) this kind of offer does not work and the shops only sell the individual bottles.

Rafa,

Gray,
Something to consider when thinking about creating your own paint packs is to consider what the powers-that-be at Vallejo have to say about that. Perhaps they'd frown upon it? Of course, I think such a reaction would be ludicrous at best, but one never knows in the business world.
How about listing your suggestions for packs - including color number - on your website for those to purchase as individual paints. Then give the customer some bonus - an added discount, a free bottle or brush, or a copy of HM #38. What do you think? By the way, IMHO, the Vallejo WWII packs are pretty darn comprehensive and well put-together - that is, with very few missing colors.

I'd be more enticed to try a new company based on discounted models. Paints are nice, but a sale on them doesn't excite me as much as a sale on a great figure. I know your prices are already discounted, but maybe a series of unadvertised specials that last a few days would keep people coming to your site.

If I were to place an item for one sale item, I'd be very likely to order at least one or two more items to justify my time and postage.

Gray,

I checkedd out your site for the first time Saturday and thought it was really good. A lot of inventory. Plan on poking through again today.

If what you want to promote are the paints, I would stick to your idea of "Buy 9 get the 10th free" or something like that. This way, people can choose their own colors. I would suspect that like me, most guys buy their paints in quantities (I can't imagine ordering 2-3 bottles of paint via the mail). If they were looking at buying 6-7, then getting a free one may encourage them to get 2-3 more. The word "free" makes people go blind sometimes. The thing I hat about the sets is that I get stuck with colors I never use-I also know it's an old trick that manufacturer's use to clear out slow moving inventory-stick in a few good pieces, then fill in the rest with slow moving stuff. People will buy for the good stuff and you clear out your slow movers.

In terms of what Vallejo wants, it doesn't really matter. By law, they can't tell a retailer what to do-you could sell them for .50 each and I truly doubt, that in this business there are complex legal agreemenets made. My guess is once you buy it from them, you can do what you like with them.

I also agree with Steven however. I BIG discount on a kit will more often than not cause my pack rat side to overcome my logical side and I'll end up doling out the money for something I will probably never paint.

Just my .45 cents
Lou

Gray,
AW CRAP!!! Why did I have to replenish my Vallejo stockpile in Atlanta last weekend? There are some acrylics painters here in San Diego, so I'll make sure to spread the word around to them - that is, if you don't mind.

Keep up the good work!
