Some progress on painting the longship. I still have to do all the nails/rivets.

I was showing my project at my hobby club’s painting get together last weekend and one of my friends said it would look even better if I tried to add some more figures like in the Angus McBride painting. I have decided to give it a try.

I am using a 120 mm mannequin from Lost Battalion and the head is from Reedees Miniatures. I am going to add a third figure but I haven’t started on him yet.
Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
Bye for now,Gerald

Thanks for the comments, guys.
I’m definitely taking inspiration from the painting but the boat section isn’t big enough to fit that many figures. I’m going to get the 3 I have planned in place then I’ll see if I have room for more.

Outstanding! What are you using as armatures for the pieces you are sculpting?
I am using 120 mm mannequins from The Lost Battalion. The proportions are pretty good on them but the hands and the heads aren’t great. I chop off the fingers and resculpt them. The head in this case is from Reedees.

I sculpted this figure 20+ years ago for Verlinden. Really good to see it in such a great setting.
I had terrible problems with the chain mail. I use Milliput and it kept going off before I had finished. So I swapped to the modelling putty you have to bake in the oven. I was horrified to see that after some hours of hard work , as it was baking loads of air bubbles under the material were swelling up. Fortunately after it cooled down they all disappeared.

Alex, the Viking was a fantastic release and I am happy to say that I completed the figure way back then and still have it in my cabinet, it really is great to see Gerald building an excellent scene around the Verlinden figure and I am sure that you get a kick out of seeing it on the modelers work bench after all these years.
There seems to be a wee surge in the amount of people seeking and building Verlinden kits, long may it continue.

Thanks for the info! Gotta try 'em!

Fantastic work on the boat and the sculpting. Looking forward to more progress and the third figure.
