No not that kind.

Was at local supermarket today and picked up from their 'Tchibo' section a really useful metal swivel vice.
Jaws open to 60mm, and ball swivel gives full 360 adjustment.
It has a suction base for smooth surfaces although it's more than heavy enough to stand alone. Tried it to hold a Pegaso 90mm, no problem.
Price, a remarkable £4.50 so about the same in Euros.

Tchibo is a German company with coffee shops and shop in shops throughout Europe, so sorry don't think they have tackled the States yet.
Marc
It appears that with the economic downturn they've re-trenched their operation to the following countries, so sorry nothing near.
Austria, Czech Republic,Germany,Hungary,Poland,Slovakia,Switzerland,Turkey,UK.
For those who might be interested, Tchibo refresh stock weekly so be quick.
regards
Derek

Hi guys ,
Nice one Del , I picked my desk vice up from Aldi some time ago , I know Lidels also sometimes do stuff , its amazing what you can find in these places so its well worth a look . For those in USA I would have a look iat Walmart ..worth trying .

Something else, probably only of use to UK and Ireland.
I'm doing my own shopping this week and am the first to admit I'm hopeless.
The upside is you get a bit lost (Father Ted in 'Ireland's biggest lingerie section') and end up looking at all sorts.
Anyway. Marks and Spencers have 4 plaster cast pillars for wedding cakes at £3.99. These aren't half bad, best when broken up a bit and OK for 54mm.
I should have bought something to eat though.
Regards
Derek

Derek read your post early this morning, popped into our local Somerfield tonight and picked one up. £4.40 so very good price for a very handy bench vice.
Thanks for the heads up.
Managed to combine two events and also bought food, but despite a search they just did not have pillars for wedding cake, seems M&S is the place for cakes.

Derek Yes I've got food and a new vice and you cant borrow either. Thinking about it you have more chance of borrowing the vice than the food.
If your wife is still away I recommend you invest in the worlds greatest cooking device, the telephone, try calling people and they will bring you food, its great.

I've noticed that Guy has a nice looking vice that he uses in some of his figure reviews. You can prob see it best in his review of Author Sculpt's "Trapper".

Here are the hand vices I use. I got these from Micro-Mark tools. I had the stand made for me by a friend and I quite often keep what I am currently working on in a brush holder too. The handle is hollowed out and very comfortable to hold and use.

hand vyse & micro mark

b.t.w. micro mark is a great co . very pleasant service , they send a email with your order then another when items ship . prices are pretty good & the hand vyse are very light & comfortable , i am trying to narrow down to a few for ordering all my items . also guy that was a good call on the dry brushes that micro mark sells in a set or by them selves sizes 2,4,6,8 . thks jimmy

Thanks Jimmy,

I order all my Floquil paint through Micro-Mark too. As you say, great service. I have about 4 sets of the dry-brushes. Once they wear down where the tip is straight across they become very useful for dry-brushing the edges of belts and straps.

There is a nice swivel vice on sale at Orchard Supply Hardware right now. I noticed a small display of small vices and this one really stood out. It not that expensive either. it looks like it would be nice for hobby work.
