Hi All,

I'm still new to painting figures, so I have a lot to learn. Ive painted more bust then figures because I am unsure about how to come up with ideas on how to display then. I see other peoples vignettes but I don't want to copy someone else work. So where does everyone get there Ideas. A little help please.

Thanks in Advance

Mark

Hi Mark..........there was a saying I learnt when involved with the Advertising Industry...."Creativity is undetected Plagiarism" Don't be afraid to use a mixture of what you see at shows and on Planet Figure, after all we are quite happy to share mixes etc so why not basework? I carry a camera and take pictures of interesting trees and rock formations etc and also pick up interesting bits of wood, stones, grit etc I can use in modelling-it is amazing what you can find for nothing.
A couple of books to think about,
Let's build a Diorama II (Terrain and Vegetation) by Laszlo Adoba
Terrain Modelling by Richard Windrow

Hope this helps...........Keith

I wouldn't worry about taking ideas from others, that's what the forum is for. Besides, there's only so much you can do with a figure base. It's hard to be original on 4x4cm.

I usually try to make the basework connect with the figure. A figure with a heavy coat and gloves on will look well on a base with mud or snow, one in shorts more in a summery setting. No rocket science here. It's nice to research the subject a bit and find something associated with it, such as characteristic stone wall behind a german paratrooper on crete.

Anyway, just go for it. Good luck.

Cheers
Adrian
