Hi Folks,

I bought this bust a long time ago (2009 I think) when it was still being marketed under the banner of the sculptor, Yuri Serebryakov. It arrived securely protected in a wooden box with foam padding inside. I doubt any postal service could damage that, short of running over it with their van.
Well, I finally decided to pull it out and apply some paint. There were three choices of headgear; a helmet, a soft round hat (the general favourite when looking at the many posts of this bust) and the one I selected.
I painted it using enamels, oils and printers’ inks.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Mine is currently on the Shelf of Shame half done. For some reason I had terrible problems doing the (fabric) cloak, and I stripped the thing three times before I managed to paint it in a way that I was half-way happy with. However by then I was sick of the sight of it, so there it has languished ever since.

A pity because it's a lovely piece, and you've done a very nice job on it. I think yours is the first one I've seen sporting that headgear.

Thanks for the kind comments Steve.

You’re not the only one to have had a problem with the cloak. I had finished mine and was waiting for the shiny oil top coat to dry thoroughly before applying my usual 50/50 mix of Dullcote and WN turps, when I suddenly noticed that I’d completely missed the small section of cloak under the metal clasp. Oh well, back to reminding myself of the sequence of enamels I’d used prior to the oil top coat, and then waiting for this section to be ready for the matt finish.
It doesn’t end there. With the bust completed, photographed and posted, I’ve now noticed that I’ve splodged silver paint on the cloak adjacent to the steel pin.

Based on our experiences, it would appear that the cloak is the ‘Jonah’ element on this bust. Therefore, if you’ve got the cloak on your version at a point where you’re happy with it, I’d recommend you get it out and paint the rest … it’s great fun.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hahaha!! That is exactly what I did. Not once but twice. It was the third attempt before I even noticed that was part of the cloak!! :(:ROFLMAO:

I will finish it at some point for sure. But there are a few others currently ahead of it in the queue.
