That's one of the miniatures I'm working on at the moment.
I'm going for the very wealthy viking who can afford expensive clothes and colours. That's why I decided to paint his quilted thingy cold red/purple (I even got an approval on that colour from one of the re-enactment guys doing viking era). The traps on his clafs will be repainted, probably something off white, or I'll try to do some sort of viking braid (I'm not sure how to explain that).
The shield is still in different shade of red, much warmer than the gambeson, but I'm gonna change that soon. And the freehand on the shield may look a bit more celtic than viking, but in many places these two cultures were in contact, so there was some mixing of ideas and ornaments.

That's all being said, I'm not saying that I'm not gonna repaint allmost all of it for a good reason:D

(edit: some more photos of the elements)

Marta ,

A nice figure , like the pose which suits your colour pallette , nice to see such "expensive" colours on a Viking , like the shield and weapons , nice freehand work .

Any ideas for the basework yet ?

Keep us updated

Thanks for sharing

Excellent work Marta the knot work on the weapons is stunning, mind saying how you did it or was it just skillful free hand ?
Steve

@Steve: I wouldn' t call it skilfull, but it's all freehands. One of my first Tbh. It took me lots of sweat and swearing to get it to this point, and I still have lots to do here.

@napoleonpeart: base will be woodlands i think. I started it already, so should post some photo before sunday.

Cheers

Reall nice freehand work on this, I've recently started doing freehand so I know what a stress it is when you perhaps don't feel it's your strongest skill. Well done.

I don't want to repaint it... but I'm affraid that with this colour scheme might be shooting myself in the foot 'competition wise'...

It took me a while to post something new here, but I was busy finishing other stuff.

But now I started viking's base. For now it's just a stick with some tobacco shrooms and bit of paint on it, but I'm planing to add lots of fern, moss and grass.

Can you see anything in here?
And if yes, what do you think?

Well, I'm of the old school..
the important point for me is the figure, I think the view must not be distracted by overdoed groundwork or a to high base .
Your base seems a good size and the actual groundwork seems enough to my eyes .

Thx guys. I never thought about matching the direction of the fallen tree and viking's gaze;] I guess I got lucky here;p
There is so many things I need to learn and remember about while working on a mini... It looks like neverending story...

And here is a little update, this time with the viking (still not finished and not mounted properly). Still an early stage but I hope you can see where I'm going with it. My goal is to keep it rather simple and show how those people, back then, were close to the nature all the time.
