Marta I am always of the opinion that on groundwork you can't leave anything unpainted Ie the log, because as good as it looks in it's natural state
it will bounce out from the painted groundwork .
The whole thing looks nice but i can see where you are coming from re the bright colours and the competitions especially as everyone is on a toning down kick at the moment:)

Ron, no worries, the log will be completely covered with paint (already is in the bright parts), I'm just using textures here.

Sadly I'm not sure what you are trying to say in the secont part. Afterall english is not my first language. Could you please be so kind and rephrase that somehow?:)

Another small step, this time more paint (mostly moss) on the log, first ferns, and some vegetation on the ground:

Saw this in close up in the flesh on Saturday as I was judging the class it was in and it is a stunning piece of work. The texture effect on the cloak, the shield and the leather work are outstanding.
I love it!

Brilliant job Marta....I take it this is the one that did deservedly well at the BMSS?
A fellow painter whose opinions I and others respect has said privately that your work is outstanding and the photos don't do them justice.
Looking forward to seeing them in Folkestone. Call into the Southcliffe and say hello, we'll be the sober group sitting quietly reading in the corner (y)
Cheers

Nice work indeed Marta, all your work is excellent. you ought to go with one of Uncle Del's home knitted title plates IMO though it would set it off a treat

I have to agree with all the coments as like Jon I saw it on Saturday,I think the whole piece is beautifully painted as is the groundwork, your choice of colours is very nice, the addition of the ferns to the groundwork really add to the setting,I think you'll be ok in the competition stakes Marta,I think this piece will do very well for you, hope I get to see it again at Folkestone :)

Hello Marta:
I'm almost hesitant to comment here. For one thing I'm
an old man, American. My meaning is that some of the terms
you wrote, I do not know what they mean. So in some respects,
I feel I'm "out of the loop" as we say. . . . I feel my opinion below
states — and it is only one old artist's opinion — that the clothes
are too clean.
I love the colour scheme. But personally, I would like to see more
evidence of colour harmony in the terrain. I realize that some
here have said that "don't do too much with the ground cover,
the terrain", as it can draw the eye away from the figure. And
that opinion does have merit, as I see it. However, I think there are
strong blues in your figure's clothing. And IMHO, there is so
much blue in plant life, growing things, particularly in the
shadow areas. As I see it, even the log can have hints of a
soft bluish tone. For me, that would bring everything to-
gether, everything in harmony regarding the Colour
choices, not only for his "costume" but also for the surroundings.
Yes, I'm only talking about a very minor painting adjustment. . .
just a hint of those cooler side of the colour wheel washes. . .
Regardless, it is still a lovely piece. And the photo-
graphs are of top quality. Congratulations to you, dear
lady. From The Miami Jayhawk.
