Virginia Militiaman - Esli Hunt

My other work in process is the 120mm figure of a Virginia Militiaman during the American war of Independence, from Sabot Miniatures. I added the powder horn to the figure, which is otherwise a stock kit. Hunt was one of my wife’s ancestors, who lived near Bedford, Virginia during the war. Afterwards he moved to western South Carolina to an area just north of modern day Greenville, SC. Painted in oils and acrylics. Still a few touch ups remaining before completion.

He looks great, the dull muted colours and subtle weathering are really well done. Lots of interest in a deceptively understated figure.

Hunt settled in the Travelers Rest area, on land granted by the Governor of SC. A number of his descendants still live in that area, on part of that land.
