It's been some time since i first brought folk to the attention of flaws that occur from time to time to the W&N series 7 brushes ,especially the size 1.
I've been in touch with W&N regarding this problem, and after numerous e-mails ,back and forth, between me and them i finally got them to check this problem out.
Their latest e-mail read-
"I have
contacted our quality department and they have reported all
quality issues to our brush manufacturer in Lowestoft for
examination."
I've attached the fault in the brush i.e. that one bloody stray hair at the tip renders the brush useless, and if you try to cut it off, you'll ruin the whole brush. This is the picture i also sent to W&N.

Result! .. ? or Pacification? One can never tell between the truth and a polite' Flip-Off', with these big companies, purely because you stuck to your gun's. Which probably annoyed them. Rightly so.

Always cautious/suspicious.:cautious:

A brush with the brushes as it were! For the price of a W&N series 7 they may as well keep their hairs in place. I've tried the Nevskaya Palitra range recently, quite different from W&N and on the flimsy side and while putting their very thin size 1 to the test, extremely fine pointed as it was, while painting suddenly one hair pops out to the side, ruins a fine painted line and refuses to return to the fold. Turps, white spirit, special soap for brush care and finally genuine saliva from a frustrated painter, nothing helps to put the brush back in shape! What are they feeding those red sables these days I wonder? I'm very curious to hear what the "Lowestoft examination" will prove...
cheers,
Piet

Over 100 hairs in a Series 7 brush and you find fault with 1 ...... Man Up :p
Sounds like the Brush Off to me.

I've had a few brushes with similar faults from W&N,and if they think for a moment that i'll be pacified, they don't know me.If i get another like that ,they'll be the first to know.
Quite a few e-mails went back and forth between me and Melodie, from W&N,and the conversation went from ",you changed the brush you got from Amazon o.k. and you informed us that you had bought two perfect brushes from your local art shop" They also informed me that i wasn't entitled to compensation,as everything turned out well. That's where the red mist descended, and i informed them that at no time, was i looking ,or asking for compensation, in any of my correspondence with them, and if they check my correspondence with them ,they'll find that was the case,I was just was pointing out that they had a quality control issue, and would hopefully rectify it,as i want to be confident to order their brushes online, rather than drive a 40 mile round trip to "my local art shop".
They apologised ,for inferring that i was looking for compensation, and could i let them have my address, so that they can send me a brush, and that their Q.C in Lowestoft were made aware of this fault.
If they think i've been pacified with a poxy brush, they got that badly wrong. It's nothing to do with money, but if i pay for goods, i expect them to be fit for purpose,If there not,woe betide them as they've unleashed the wrath of supersnad, the crusader:ROFLMAO:
Check your brushes lads, and if they're not up to standard, return them.I always will.
Power to the wee man:)

I thought there would have been more interest on this problem, but obviously not.So i'll continue to monitor the situation ,and keep the info to myself, and the lads that took an interest,in the knowledge that i personally ,won't put up with an inferior product ,that happens to be the most important tool we use in our hobby.(n)

Did it occur to you that many people might be interested in what happens, but just didn't chime in on your thread? Geez, time to take a chill pill.

I stopped using these brushes a few years back when I got a craptacular one from them. The hairs pointed in every direction except forward.

Did it occur to you, that when i posted the original thread, there were many who were interested in the outcome, which was some months ago."Take a chill pill".You obviously don't know me pal.

Still sufficiently chilled.I guess you didn't read what i said ( "So i'll continue to monitor the situation ,and keep the info to myself, and the lads that took an interest") and true to my word, ive done just that.

Brian,
I use W&N and experience the same thing off and on.The longer ones I try to snip off as best I can.But at my age that pretty much applies to everything I do.:)
Regards,
Wayne

They passed my complaint onto their quality control ,and sent me a free brush as an apology.
I'll still use their brushes, especially their series 7 size 1,as it's my favourite size, but if I get a bad one again,,it'll go straight back. The funny side is,I've used their series 7 miniature brushes and I've never had a problem with them.In the meantime I,'ll use their brushes, as I reckon they're the best, but I'm always on the lookout for other makers brushes, although I've tried a few different brands,so far,ive not found any that come near the series7 yet.

I'm still an amateur Brian, but I have noticed a drop in quality with Series 7's also.I have to order them online as no one near me carries them, and its pot luck what you end up with these days, where as I never had any bad ones before.

Very frustrating.

Cheer's,
Jeff.

Well, another immature asshole rises to the surface......

Yes, quite agree. His comments are unnecessary, immature , provocative and not appreciated by the vast majority of members. Talk about who ought to chill out.

I too appreciate Brian advising a company that charges like a wounded bull the defects of their product. Without that feedback, they simply get away with selling sub par brushes. Well done Brian, and thanks for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the Broken Toad brushes? Being a painter who needs all,the help he can from brushes, I gave up on W&N series 7 and I find the Broken Toad brushes superior and at less cost. Worth a giving them a trial.

Cheers
Chris

I use W&N 7 brushes and Raphael 8404s. More hair for the money with the 8404. Not a single bad one yet.

Heard they were pretty good. I've had good luck with the da vinci Maestro Series 10.
