Hi Monsoon
"Did it occur to you that many people might be interested in what happens, but just didn't chime in on your thread? Geez, time to take a chill pill. "

You definitely don't know me pal.I don't expect you, or anyone else to fawn over me,as i'm just a painter, like the rest of the guys here, but you're above opening piece to this thread came across as a bit ignorant, for want of another word.
I don't get my ass licked ,or fawned upon ,and i definitely don't throw my toys out the pram.I'll finish there ,as i might say something i'll regret. So i look forward to having some input to this forum from you.once you've matured a bit.Now run along and play with your toys:)
Best regards
Brian

Hi Guys ,

As a result of Brian highlighting the brush concern , checked all my ones....currently unused but in line to be ........one was iffy and has been sent back to the supplier , I had a quick e mail from them thanking me for raising this and they are sending me a replacement and rechecking their stock as well .

I had a good comeback. Something along the lines of living in your mom's basement and eating Hot Pockets, but I'll let it slide since it's Sunday. ;)

Check out the Maestro brushes if you get a chance.

Hi Jeff
We seem to have got off on the wrong foot, and a wee bit of bad behaviour was let loose, which was not called for.Let me tell you where i stand on this issue.I'm 69 yrs old and a hairy arsed Scotsman who enjoys our hobby very much, and can honestly do without all the flak.I don't have a basement and obviously my mum's dead many moons ago,and i don't know what a Hot Pocket is.
So let's cut all the crap ,and tell me about your experience with the Maestro brushes.
Brian

,and i don't know what a Hot Pocket is.
Brian

A Hot Pocket is a frozen, diarrhea-inducing lunch food that you microwave in a little sleeve. In the USA, they are thought to be consumed by young people who have no taste buds and are too lazy to prepare a real meal. I used to eat them myself. ;) Comedian Jim Gaffigan has a funny bit about them

I recently purchased a W&N Series 7 size 2. It worked perfectly the first session, but now it starts to broom as I unload the brush. It forms a perfect shape when wet, but as I paint a few hairs start sticking out of the side. I sometimes wonder if I am doing something wrong, like maybe I'm cleaning it too aggressively? The same thing happened to a sable brush from Citadel. Now I'm just afraid to paint anything. Sigh.

I don't rate the Citadel brushes.I washed my brushes in soapy water ,then form them into a point before putting them away.I paint in oils,so i use white spirit thinners, which i use initially to clean the brushes.Acrylics can be a problem if you allow dried paint to get under the ferrule,as it's hard to see if you've cleaned it properly.I wouldn't worry too much if a few stray hairs come out the side as long as the brush is keeping it's point.
Hot Pockets are called Pop Tarts over here:ROFLMAO:

Late to the party, but will add my two cents. The older W&N Series 7s that I have are still in very nice shape and hold a point well. Those brushes are all about 5 to 7 years old now. I do not use them to base coat figures or paint groundwotk with them as they are reserved for detail painting and layering of shadows and highlights. Last year I picked up two W&N series 7s at a local show during the great "Sable Scare" here in the States. I can say, with out a doubt, the brushes are not as good as my olders one. Both of the brushes look similar what Brian posted above, just not quite as bad. I never returned them, although I probably should. I never noticed the uneven point problem until a few weeks after the show when I examined them in good light conditions at my bench. Since then, I've ordered a couple of Rapael 8404 series brushes and I am very please with them so far.

Heard they were pretty good. I've had good luck with the da vinci Maestro Series 10.

I'm late to the thread as well, and also not nearly experienced to most here but I have found the Da Vinci series 10 and 36 to be really nice in comparison to other 'sable' brushes and they definitely hold their shape longer, makes life easier and less frustrating ;)
Regards
Chris.

My apologies Jeff.I noticed that Monsoons name is Jeff as well,so i blundered by somehow sending the message to you.I've just noticed that you have a very famous name but i think he might have spelt it differently.I lived in OZ for about 10 years and my daughter was born in Wagga, where the great bowler came from.
Cheers Brian

Ahh, no worries Brian, I didnt realise Monsoon's name was Jeff as well!..LOL!....yes, I used to get a lot of comments over the years about my name, but not many remember Thommo these days, and you taught me something, I didnt know he came from Wagga,..LOL.

Cheer's,
Jeff.

Have a look on the Market place I seem to have gathered rather a lot of Series 7 ...now selling some !

I also use the DaVinci brushes and am very happy with their performance ..perhaps with brushes it's a personal choice ...

I know my mate Jimbo's brushes are battered to death , not series 7 or Da V but he gets great results from whatever he has !

I just started to use the DaVinci's and I like them. I did have a W&N Series 7 once that I beat the crap out of and it still bounced back. My second one was crap from the get-go.

Stoffy01, I haven't seen the DV Series 36. Did a search on Amazon and saw one size 36 for $840. Yikes!

Brian: Stay away from Hot Pockets. Nasty, microwave junk.
