Very interesting Matthew. I'm not sure about the accuracy of the statement, "However, the British were particular about taking home their war dead". I was under the impression it wasn't until after WWII that British war dead were returned home.
I hope there is a follow up to this telling us what was discovered about CB, if that is his name, pretty flimsy evidence but as good a guess as any I suppose.

Roger.

Hi Matthew
As a member of the Waterloo association it's very interesting news and a remarkable discovery,it's just sad how the find came about which is the building of a new carpark, sadly it's another small piece of the battlefield being carved up for commercial purposes, many thanks for posting the news and the link.

Very interesting article Matthew. We are more used to the remains of british soldiers from the Great War and WW2 being discovered in Belguim, France and the Netherlands than previous conflicts. Many thanks for sharing this one.

I'm surprised there were no buttons, strange there are the coins, spoon, flint, piece of cloth and block of wood but no buttons, unless he wasn't wearing his jacket when he died.
Mysterious
