Painted a scabbard (brown) and belt (redish brown) ned dto make them look a little worn any suggestions. The oil paint is dry so no wet on wet technique will work but would like some ideas with this approach as well.

As it's already dry, try mixing a little flesh with burnt sienna, or white with burnt sienna onto the extreme edges of the equipment in question, and then blending it out towards the centre. Try this lightly and build up on the surface until you're happy. Hope this helps. Let me know.

I remember from the days of old (when I used to paint with oils) that I used pure golden ochre, mars yellow and/or naples yellow. After letting the dry on wet dry for a couple of days I redid this with a glaze. For this I mixed bleeched linseed oil with turps. The more linseed oil the transparanter the glazin is, but also more glossy.

I hope this helps,

Gino

Yep. Go with the Mars Yellow or Yellow ochre. Same pigment. Pretty transparent too.

IMO... :)

Would love to see how your leather looks if you care to post some pics and share..

Try useing a mixture of black and red Indian ink watered down and run over the area you require it. the ink will dry quickly and as the oils, ( if thats what you are using and the surface is touch dry) the oils will continue to dry, the ink being dry will craise (crack) giving good effect of old leather.....
good luck Phil...
