Shiiiet! I'm digging that blue!!! You nailed the LW blue.

And the leather jacket... Looks damn cool I want one of that for myself.
XL please!

Ernesto, absolutely fantastic! The leather jacket is superb and the head also. Just pre-ordered this kit with SK. Mike will surely be most impressed with thw painting thus far. Les

You have nailed that leather coat mate and as already noted the luftwaffe blue is superb

Superb job ernesto

I agree with the comments abut the jacket, the leather is superb.
Just one thing, if I may suggest that the Waffenfarbe on the luftwaffe officers cap should be silver, not yellow.
Hope you dont mind me pointing that out. I dont mean to sound like a know-it-all a---hole.

I think the color portrait was a B/W and colored in.
Great job on the blue uniform, though.

I thought the waffenfarbe for flight crew should be in golden yellow.
I don't think there were silver waffenfarbe in Luftwaffe...
White was for general staff and ground infantry units such as HG Div.

Any thoughts?

I agree with Taesung that the 'colored' photo (probably a tinted black and white pic) is not a very good source for color reference. My understanding - going back many years - is that, just like in the Army and SS, colored piping on Luftwaffe hats was a feature of OR and NCO ranks. Officer's hats were piped with silver and for generals, gold. The photo supplied by Ernesto is a repro hat and not a genuine item.

The silver boullion cord chin strap and silver piping are officer cap distinctions. Here is a google search page for officer's caps:

http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1282&bih=903&q=Luftwaffe+officer+cap&gbv=2&oq=Luftwaffe+officer+cap&aq=f&aqi=&aql=undefined&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=2113l11367l0l21l21l0l14l14l0l222l1237l0.4.3l7

Please notice: tons of Luftwaffe caps with silver piping! The presence of a few caps with yellow piping and a silver boullion chin strap is difficult to explain except that these may simply be incorrect "reconstructions" or wartime NCO hats fitted with an Officer's boullion chin strap.

The NCO or other ranks hat should have yellow piping (for flying branch) and a black leather chin strap. Here is a search page for NCO caps:

http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1282&bih=903&q=Luftwaffe+officer+cap&gbv=2&oq=Luftwaffe+officer+cap&aq=f&aqi=&aql=undefined&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=2113l11367l0l21l21l0l14l14l0l222l1237l0.4.3l7#hl=en&gbv=2&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=Luftwaffe+NCO+cap&oq=Luftwaffe+NCO+cap&aq=f&aqi=&aql=undefined&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=319138l322368l0l10l10l0l0l0l2l222l1384l1.8.1l10&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=3e1f7bfa9a4fd53a&biw=1282&bih=903

This is my understanding going back many years. My personal opinion is that the yellow piping (and backing for the hat eagle) are incorrect for Molders. The great majority of the photos from my google image searches seem to bear me out on this. Good solid evidence to the contrary will be welcomed.

I hope this helps!

Good piece of info, Mike. So the waffenfarbe color was not
applied to officer caps...
What about the waffenfarge piping on the shoulder board?

I'm sort nervous about the correctness of boxart since
I received a healthy dose of flaks with my Wittmann's
trousers color. ;P

Taesung,

The backing for Officer's shoulder straps was the same as for other ranks: waffenfarbe color (yellow for flying branch). If I am not mistaken, the shoulder strap backing and collar tabs would be the only visible indication of waffenfarbe coloring seen on an officer's uniform.

Any "experts" out the feel free to pipe in!

Mike
