Wow....ordered a 75mm figure from Mr Lees minis for 40 pounds plus 15 pounds postage !!!!! Recieved it today and had to pay 21,78 euros in customs charges (about 18 pounds) bringing the total to circa circa 73 pounds for one figure (the bather)......never again !!!
Lovely figure though.
Regards
Pete

What's your countries customs minimum?
Thought most countries didn't add on tax and customs charges to deliveries under €150.

Seems to depend on the quality of the canteen snacks, or whatever else pisses them off on any given day.
Over the years I've been hit by Import Tax ranging between anything from 0% up to 75% of declared value - and on occasion, the shipping boxes have either been sent back to sender, or the contents destroyed.
Gave up buying new figures about one year ago cos it's simply not worth the hassle.
Just as well there's still a substantial amount of Grey Army remaining in my stash cupboard.

Last time I checked the UK allowed duty and VAT free personal imports up to £150 from overseas.

Unfortunately the EU are sulking over the UK's exit so are hitting imports from UK at every opportunity.
Caveat emptor.

The UK adds customs and VAT to imports coming into the UK that are over £150. That doesn't effect exports. Each country in the EU and Europe has it's own import and VAT charges and the amount fees begin to be charged varies from one country to the next. It's actually something that isn't due to Brexit and was already on the cards to happen.

Which country are you in? If you're in an EU country then you shouldn't have customs fees for items under €150, which this is. You would need to question the fee with the customs department.

I am not going into the merits of the individual case above but just clarifying the Customs process as the above statements are incorrect.
This all stems from the Customs and VAT reform in the EU that was set up pre-Brexit. So this is how it works:
- ALL items at whatever value are liable for VAT/Customs Duty.
- You can receive GIFTS under £39/€45 without being charged VAT or Customs Duty.
- Orders under £135 or €150 are charged VAT of the destination country (so 20% in the UK, 19% in Germany, 21% in Spain, etc.)
- Orders over £135 or €150 are charged VAT AND CUSTOMS DUTY (depending if there are Tariffs applied to the goods in question)
So VAT is ALWAYS applied by the Customs.
The low-value goods limit of £20/€22 was removed to stamp out the cheap Chinese imports so now everything is charged.
There are more complex details regarding the actual transaction processing but that is another whole thread in itself.
Full details here: Tax and customs for goods sent from abroad: Tax and duty - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Hope this helps to clarify matters.

Hi Pete,

here is the answer to your question - new rules since 1rst of July 2021:https://www.verbraucherzentrale.de/...igrenze-fuer-kaeufe-aus-nichteulaendern-62109
Cheers, Martin

Yes I am in Germany and the seller added the postage fees of 15 pounds to the value of the figure in question 40 pounds, and wrote 55 pounds as total value,so I was taxed for 55 british pounds !!!!

The shipping cost has to be added to the product costs on the Customs declaration. That's part of the reform too.

That is standard procedure for goods from outside EU.
It is just unexpected for us because we got used to the situation when Britain was part of the EU. The new situation makes life harder for small companies that want to supply their goods to customers inside EU but by this Britain was able to regain 350.000000 GBP a week to fund the NHS.

Since Brexit I have purchased from Legion in Russia ( outside EU) delivered by Royal Mail and Pegaso in Italy (in EU) delivered by DHL.
I did not pay duty or VAT on either.

In view of el Greco's info I will, from now on, restrict my purchases to UK sellers. Any duty etc will have been paid so no surprises like Custer got.
Of course that is quite do-able in UK but not every country has the amount of choice of traders we in UK have.

Always buying price + sending cost 40 + 15 = 55 then as it-is now import, so 21%VAT + no import tax ( less than 150 ) but + custom documents costs
If the price is above 150€ you will add import tax ( 4% for toys )

UK customs doesn't seem to bother with items that are under the £150 mark. They can't charge as much as the £150+ stuff. Plus they don't catch everything so there's a touch of luck involved too.

The way Pegaso give price on thei webb shop can be confusing
They wrote price 40,00€ then price with taxes 48,80€
1 by taxes, they mean VAT ( values added taxes ; VAT is there 21% on the selling price VAT included ; 48,80€- 21% VAT = 40€ )
2 if you are in EU communities you will pay 48,80€ because inside EU the VAT is paid in the land of origin
if you are not, your price is 40€ + all your country taxes on basic price+transportation costs according to locals rules + import taxes + import documents costs

If I ( in Belgium ) buy in UK the rules are
Always buying price + sending cost 40 + 15 = 55 then as it-is now import, so 21%VAT( 55/0.79) + no import tax ( less than 150 ) but + custom documents costs
If the price is above or equal 150€ you will add import tax ( 4% for toys ) 150+15 =155/0.79= 189,80€ + 4% ( toy ) = 197,50€ + custom document cost ( circa 20€ in Belgium ) = 217,50€

Also, many small brands are not fully registered for tax purposes because they don't make a certain amount of profit (or at least this is my understanding). It's why you only find a few sellers (El Greco and Pegaso for example) showing prices with and without VAT.

(siehe Link) https://www.ebay.de/itm/265809509922?hash=item3de37b3e22:g:HA8AAOSwE1pf946l
Komisch warum du so viel zahlen musstest.

Mr Lee's Minis would put on whatever DHL charged them. Doesn't matter if €6 is a flat rate charge from DHL.
