Just to get this thread back on track and keep my flock of sheep safe . Wooden Dowel 4-5-6 mm really cheap to buy , can be found much more easily than brass rod at all hardware and DIY shops . Can be painted in any metallic colour or as I prefer Matt Black as most painters seem to paint the underside of the bust black or a very dark colour .

Definitely a good option , easier to work than knitting needles

Brass tube filled with dowel fits my bill.......cut, drill,tap............................Brass and a little steel wool......and a little Birchwood Caseys Brass Black on the brass...acid reaction turns it black...no chipping and a smooth finish......somewhat of a gun collector........................By the way brass tube should be had at most hobby stores along with the dowell................................Also.......no set rule on mounting ............Regards to all.................Wayne

They're polystyrene, but the can be filled with plaster or milliput for strength. I tend to put a screw/metal rod into the bust before filling the pedestal for increased stability as well. The pedestals are mounted on small round bases. I think these may have been cast in resin.

I like the effect,
very in keeping with the bronzed effecf of the ancients you did.
Reeeeeeeeealy nice sir.
I was looking to do the opposite, ie: to nake some roman/ greek columns.
A friend suggested I could get fluted aluminium hollow curtain pole in the diy stores.
I thought at the time that was a great idea, with any remaining bits working as mounts for busts !
Must try both of these ideas now.
