Hi all
Spending time on PF and seeing all the fabulous work (and outstanding talent), I see it would be very easy to end up with dozens (or hundreds:eek:) in your collections.
What do you do with them all? Give as gifts, sell, or keep them all in beautiful curio cabinets?
I already have a 'wish list' and my new models haven't arrived yet!

Hello Mary
I do not have anything in my cabinet as everything I paint gets sold. I either paint to order or paint something I fancy doing then put it up for sale on my web site. It’s a bit hard parting with some pieces sometimes but I guess I can always paint them again at some point. Have five partly finished pieces in the cabinet ATM but these will all be going to their new home in the new year.

What figures do you have coming?

Tommi

Some I sell or give as gifts, but most of them I keep. Most of mine are 32mm scale figures so they don't take up a lot of room in display cases.

I have one cabinet in my conservatory which is limited in space so the rest of my models end up on shelving in the loft and I alternate them occasionally. Wish I could afford another cabinet but room is limited. :(

Well, guys, I'd better keep that wish list under control :)
Tommi, I have 2 Youngs busts on the way from El Greco; A crusader and Blackbeard the pirate. Can't wait!

The ones I finish and am happy with (or at least not ashamed of ) get put on the display shelves.

As I steadily improve and the shelves fill up, new finished pieces take the place of older ones on display, and the latter are then either stripped down for re-painting or are packed away in a box out of sight until I decide what their final fate will be.

Hi Mary ,
Good question this , for me like others on PF ,I have 2 display cabinets ...one with older stuff in and a newer one with the latest in , putting the latest into the newer one and "relegating" any to the other cabinet if space is needed......

....this way at least I can see some improvement as I paint ...hopefully !!!(y)

Will I need another cabinet ..almost certainly ..only where is it to go ....replace a kitchen cabinet perhaps ...think someone in my life might have something to say about that!!!!!!:)

Oh and then of course there's the small matter of my "tiny" gray army to store !!!!!!

My wish list ...I wish I could control it .. I do try ...honest !!!!!!

Well, I want to get the bust I believe is called the 'Thief' or 'Looter'...I spent 6 yrs as a crime reporter so could put him on my desk at work:D

I kept my oldest pieces but the new ones are made to order and do not remain at home for a long time. Most of my pieces are in my grey army (as I suppose is the case for you as well). I am basically not a collector. My pleasure is in the study of uniforms and figure painting.

I used to have a display cabinet in my dining room but after knocking a bloody great big hole through to make a kitchen diner which my lovely wife had been after for years this space was lost , so now once they are finished they go back in my modeling cupboard never to be seen again . This doesn't worry me to much as it's the making and painting I enjoy more than looking at them

I have a small curio that is stupidly full and in which I am constantly jousting for space with the better half's Wedgwood collection. I need Board of Directors (aka wife and kids') level approval to sell anything as they are considered heirlooms....only exception is when I sculpt and paint a portrait as a gift for specific friend or public figure. I don't do commissions as I don't do shows - so all my hobby contact is virtual

I've only been working on the larger scale historical figures for a few years (before that I mostly painting gaming figures and those tended to get sold or traded when I moved on to the next project), so my collection hasn't overrun my place yet. Most of my pieces end up on display in my home or at work as many fit in well with my job. I've done only one on commission, though I have painted several for my dad as gifts. I've also found that your local hobby store will often be happy to put a few in their display case... especially if, as in my case, you painted them with vallejo and the store sells vallejo.

Of course, when my fiance finishes med school and moves in with me I may have a little more trouble finding available display areas around the house. I guess I'll either have to start selling or come up with some more creative places to display them.

PS. Enjoy working on those busts from Young. I've got two of his and think their stuff is absolutely amazing.

i put most of them in boxs
I only won’t to keep charging rebels because that’s what I collect
I’m hoping I can seal some of my stuff at the Dallas show in May
My better half well keep some things I paint when they come out good
I jest like painting not keeping

After 40 years of figures I have a collection of about 500 painted figures. Most are done by myself but in recent years have started collecting painted figures of other artist. I keep all of them in cases in the living room. 2, 4' X 7' cases and a 5' X 7' case. Even with all the cases I am running out of room.

I keep the figures I medal with at shows and keep some others but lately I just do comission work now. But I want to start collecting figures from some of my favorite painters
