Haven't looked at my email in the past week so had a look today to submit meter readings before tomorrows rate increase. Decided to link to my account to check calculated monthly payments going forward.
Currently paying £250 per month and discovered based on averaged useage they intend to up it to £697.....dream on.
I assume this is based on the planned 80% uplift and not the 27% actual.
Ths would mean an annual bill of around £8,500.
2 choices, switch everything off and go to the Canaries between Oct ~ Mar or stay in bed until 17.00 and go to the pub. Both offer cheaper and more attractive options.
This place is going to hell in a handcart.

That seems an insane increase Del, my bill has actually gone down a little about £5 with the £60 rebate.

Over 100 years old, conservation area, stone, no cavity to insulate. big cellar and too many rooms for just the two of us.
Brought up the 3 weans here, 37, 32, 27.........and they keep coming back :ROFLMAO: Basically for us it's more than a house, can't see me leaving except in a box.

An increase from£250 per month up to£697 per month is just nuts Del.

I've done the comparisons with the past years use and by every possible criteria including doubling the tarrif I can't come up with how they got there.
The only way is to take last years coldest 3 months use and multiply it by 4 across the coming
calendar year.
I'm looking forward to Mondays call

Hi Del

Good grief ....we have the same type of house ....not too many rooms ...off to live in the shed ...wrapped in a blanket

What a state this country is in now

Join the club mate...I will be very surprised if you can even get through on the phone...let alone get any sense out of them!
Our suppliers website crashed two days ago...still not fixed...and doubt it will be any time soon.
Let's not forget...the so called 'price cap' means absolutely nothing in real terms...and we have suffered a rise from the previous level...not a freeze...same old smoke and mirrors...and a pile of steaming BS thrown in for good measure.

Its only taken us 10 months to convince Scottish Power that we havent had a gas supply in our house since last December...! The meter was taken out and the supply capped off, but theyve kept charging us a standing charge of £25 per month for a meter that we dont have - Im looking forward to the cheque they send us, for the money back that we never owed them in the first place - yeh, I dont think it'll arrive, either........(y)

Notoriously bad customer service from Scottish Power. Anyone I know that's with them have nothing good to say.
D

Cant agree more, Del! We changed supplier back in December, but SP seem to think that we still owe them money, even though they arent our provider, any more! The fact that the gas meter wasnt even installed or owned by them obviously went over their heads!!

Just did the sums bases on all of last years statements. Assuming I use the same energy (although I'm dropping the thermostat by certainly 2 degrees) and taking into
account the new tarriff and standing charges my monthly payments should be around £260 not £690.
Everybody needs to do their calculations and not let them overcharge and say that you'll have credit to offset the rises post cap.

Piss is being taken on an industrial scale. The energy companies are getting all the headlines but it's everything. Couple of weeks ago I read that the RAC were saying that we're still paying about 10p more per litre of fuel at the pumps than we should be. Even cat lit has gone up in Aldi (and when you've got 4 cats trust me, you notice the hit!)

Everything being blamed on "inflationary pressures" of course. But you can bet your pension (or whatever's left of it after you've paid your latest gas & lekky bill) that as soon as those same "inflationary pressures" are removed, stuff will NOT go back down in price to what it cost before. It only ever works in one direction. Or if the price does fluctuate (like with fuel & energy), the principle of "goes up like a rocket and comes down like a feather" invariably applies.

Part of the BS was when they patronisingly explained that the "price cap" ( :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ) "revision" (they really mean "increase") was being changed from every 6 months to every 3 months is "so that falls in the wholesale price of energy can be passed on more quickly to the customer" ( :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ).

They must think that "the customer" has just stepped off the banana boat.

Couldn't get on the banana boat...was full of Albanians

Lets face it...highway robbery and profiteering are the new 'norm'...if your a pensioner...just sit in the corner and die quietly please :dead:

Latest shambles from British Gas. Downloaded the update from my gas reading of 30/9.
Actual usage between it and previous reading was accurate, however the consumption figure was......
1,139,422 Kw. Apparently I'm a small town.:D
These companies are clearly in a shambles

See always thought you were a man of property !

Crazy or what ...good old British Gas

Lets not get carried away, this is happening all over Europe don't forget, we are all victims of the mad man in the Kremlin.

I was fortunate to take out a 2 year fix in September last year so not yet affected by the new rates, surprisingly this month I had a £69 discount on my normal bill of £205. While I have no intention of returning it I find it difficult to understand that the systems are unable to differentiate people on fixed rates who really are not entitled.

all i can say is that here in Quebec, where our electricity is mainly hydro-electricity from OUR big big dams upnorth ..... prices are going sky high and they ask us to lower our needs during the winter.
yeah sure ! how could i lower the temp when it's -30 outside ?

i'm actually interested in any way to go hibernating like bears do, if any of you have a solution : please share !

As for getting carried away I imagine we'll be seeing a lot more of that this winter.. in ambulances.
You'd think Hydro would have you covered???? In europe Putins war is unquestionably the main root cause of the problem.
But the major companies continue to announce record profits so in simple terms despite or because of restrictions the opportunity for profiteering has been exploited.....follow the money.
