It would be interesting and probably sad to compare an image of what we now have.

As of 1 August 2015, there are 76 commissioned ships in the Royal Navy. 19 of the commissioned vessels are major surface combatants (six guided missile destroyers and 13 frigates) and 10 are nuclear-powered submarines (four ballistic missile submarines and six fleet submarines).

Once it was send a gunboat now it's send THE gunboat

Aside from the 4 Trident nuclear subs the RN is more a glorified coastal patrol force these days than a blue-water navy.

Scandalous bordering on treasonous the way in which all the armed forces have been sold down the river and pared to the bone by the politicians these past 20 years or so. The entire strength of the regular RN would now all fit into Derby County's football ground Pride Park, and there would still be a few hundred seats left to fill.

And isn't 1 of those 76 ships HMS Victory?!

Canadian Navy... 12 birch bark canoes, each fitted out with a spring loaded rock tosser, propelled by ten hard men on the paddles and 4 crack shots with black powder fowling pieces.

That, dear friends, is a modern seaborne force to be reckoned with. Don't even start me on the shambles that is the rest of the Canadian Armed Farces.

Shameful

I wonder how our grey armies put together would compare, in numbers, to some of today's force sizes....?

I alone could stock at least a battalion-sized unit with armour, and start a medium-sized air force. Not sure if my panthers, tigers, and messerschmitts will still have much impact though.... Forget about my romans.

You may well mock AK47 :)
We will have an aircraft carrier , two in fact one of which will be mothballed when built and the one in service will have no planes WTF

The BBC news last week ran a small comment on our airforce's presence in helping the situation in bombing IS's and actually showed American planes taking off from one of your carriers "F Fourteens I think " with the the American insignia dubbed out . the truth is we have half a dozen clapped out tornadoes operating from cyprus ; probably with only two operational at any given time

The stark truth is we cannot afford a navy anymore or an airforce as we are now spending all our money in trying to keep out illegal migrants and we can't afford that either .

Mini rant over :D

Colin, have you been reading the last of the mohicans again:LOL::).

I was just looking at the top photo again,
Even if we had the same navy it wouldn't look the same,

There would be very happy Portsmouth traffic wardens rowing up and down the lines
making more commission on their minimum wage.
