What is the best all round DSLR lens for taking full size and close up images of figures, focal length etc. I am using an EFS 18mm to 55mm Canon lens on my DSLR but find that the lens refuses to focus once you get to close to the figure, you end up within the maximum focus range of the lens so have to move the camera back to obtain focus, this way you are relying more on the resolution capabilities of the camera to enlarge your close up images than a lens taking a proper close up shot at the maximum resolution of the camera.
Any thoughts on this.

Cheers

There is only one lens that brings out the best of the figures.
The Macrolens.
If you have a choice take a 100mm. It leaves more light on the object then a 55mm.
How lightstronger he is, better it is, but the cost's are very high.

Tommi it depends on how you are using it. If you are using it for studio shots then a macro is not all that neccessary. You can set it up in manual mode and take picture to achieve a full depth of field. However, if you are taking pics without a tripod and at show a macro lens would be best. If you stretch to it you want to get either a Tamron or Sigma.

Thanks Ross

My wife uses a small Canon camera at the shows with a good maco feature and gets better results than me with the DSLR at shows with the 18 to 55mm that I have. Will have a shop around on the web for macro lens.

Thanks
