There's your inspiration mate. From each setback Ron has rolled his sleeves up and produced some outstanding pieces.
In addition he has given us some of the best and most comprehensive SBS's you'll see. Just search under threads he's posted.
Cheers
Derek

Best advice I can offer you Rob...choose a piece that is basic in it's complexity...nothing kills a 'comeback' like too much detail etc.
Consider moving outside your comfort zone...perhaps look at a fantasy piece...which removes the 'uniform' constrictions...and allows you a lot more freedom of interpretation.
Secondly...approach your chosen subject with an open mind...we all put too much pressure on ourselves at times...so try to have no preset ideals...just go where it takes you.

Rob it's not about limiting posts it's about not imposing limits on yourself.
If your intention is to look at others work for inspiration that"s fine but it can only be useful if you produce something to give you a comparison. Ask questions by showing a piece and saying for example how do I improve my eye painting. As Ron says there's nothing that can't be answered.......so crack on we need all the oil painters we can get (y)
Ditto that!:)

I'm an "oiler" too. I must agree with Del and Ron, just do it! Like I've always told my sons, "It ain't gonna get done looking at it!"

You've been in this hobby long enough to know a learning curve when you see one, so Ruck On, post em when ya got em, and we'll give an assist when we can.

Remember, we ALL crawled before we learned how to walk.

Cheers, Ski.

Hope the rehab goes well........paint downstairs........I do most of my better work in the kitchen (y)

I'm not an oil painter (don't shoot me please) but I'm a huge advocate of the "getting stuck in" method.

You've had some great pointers here and other places and what's the worst that can really happen honestly? Paint on the carpet would be pretty bad I suppose.

The best lessons are learnt by making mistakes and you have to try for those mistakes to happen.

Have some fun mixing those paints while they're still wet and laughing at us acrylic painters who chase smooth blends by adding magical mediums and painting fast

Yes i agree rehab is started well not going up the stairs well but the best start in quite some time . With that said I’ve been watching vids on line and over thinking things . scared to mix my own colors doesn’t even seem to be as bad as i thought it was LOL might even be fun LOL I’m not starting with a overly complicated pallet so be optimistic about going forward thanks all

A simple palette is easier to control. That's why many art tutorial sites recommend less paints to begin with.

I use oil paints exclusively. Winsor and Newton over Humbrol matt white or over a grey primer on 90 mm figures. Sometimes I will paint a rough undercoat of the base colours, but it takes a lot more time to finish a figure. I just posted some work. The 90 mm French Dragoon and the 30 mm Red Lancer flats diorama, all painted with oils.
