Who copies who?

Hi guys,

I just foudn a figure which was made by two companies: Verlinden and Academy. I currently have the copy from Academy, it is Vinyl figure. In found that Verlinden also issued the same figure in resin (here is the link to that picture: http://www.delcampe.net/page/item/i...resine-neuve-non-commencee-va,language,E.html)

So who is the original producer?

As far as I'm aware that's a Verlinden figure. Do you have a link to Academy, and/or to their version of the figure in question?

It seems like some years ago Verlinden sold off some masters and molds to another company. Could this be one of them?

The pictures they have are the same. So how about hte copyright thing?

Do anyone can answer my curiousity?

Academy

Hi Band,
Academy started off as a company many years ago which 'reproduces' other manufacturers moulds. Airfix, Tamya clones were found among their many offerings. Their prices were a fraction of the originals.

Thanks. Even without knowing any further details I can say from looking at the box with a fair degree of certainty that this is a recast (because of the moire patterns in the picture).

The size being slightly smaller than the Verlinden original is a natural consequence of shrinkage during the mould-making and casting procedures.

Whether it's done legally or illegally is the question, i.e. have they bought the master off Verlinden? No idea I'm afraid, but I bet Verlinden would know if you want to ask them.
