It essentially means making fun of someone without necessarily being malicious. Another form can be as a challenge (more pointed) "Are you taking the mick out of me?". Isn't the English language a grand invention

Thanks Paul!

I was associating it with another form of:
"Slipping someone a mickey."

Which doesnt seemt to have any relation.

I long for the day when we can force you all to talk swedish.

Cheers

Spending 2 or3 days with good friends is the best part of a road trip. Then add to the mix the chance to meet terrific painters and sculpters who arn't affraid to pass on tips.

There are the vendors, the figures, tools, bases, paints, reference books, lectures.....GOODIES OF ALL KINDS.... sorry got carried away( is it time for MFCA yet?).

Perhaps an award, but for me the best is seeing someone taking a picture of your work.

Finally a show stirs my spirit and gets the paints flowing again.

Hope to see you all in a couple of months.

Herb

The conversations I have at figure expos are the greatest experiences of my life.
No where else can I talk with like minded people about art and history.
This is what I look forward to the most and I pine for it when I do not have the experience.
That is why I think these forums are good as well.

I have to admit being a poor student  the opputunity to get to the odd show and meet up with old mates is really good and also meet up with new guys I have met here on Pf like Rob, Callum and Dave. All of whom I would not have met without this forum.

Rob - You do not know the trials that Gerry and Simon have had getting that system in place. Simon was talking about it when I was at the branc 5 years ago. The old gang from the BMSS tried to stop it and some even left the branch in protest over it and the fact that 75% of the branch were non - BMSS members. But you are right it has improved the show, it is not so competitive anymore and the work can be appreciated for what it is.

Ross :)

Being a member of the Planet makes going to a show or expo even more enjoyable, for the fact I can meet everybody I talk to and see their work. Its all part of this wonderfull hobby of ours.

It proves there is a little excitement in every aspect of our hobby, from the initial buying or making of a figure, to finding the history on a subject, to painting the figure, to finishing that figure better than the last, to having other people interested in what you have painted/sculpted, it says something to you when someone asks how you did that and what better place than at a show or expo.... :)

Man what a hobby

Dave

When I go to shows it's to "talk shop" with friends and see some great work, in addition for searching for additions to my library.~Gary

I like it all! As with fine dining, its the blend of the food, wine, companionship and atmosphere that makes the experience enjoyable. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

The combination of being able to see old friends, meet new ones, display your work, be inspired by others' work, buy stuff you need and don't need, talk shop/history or whatever and pick up tips are all important. You can't do this anywhere else. My life is so much richer for the friends I've made and the expereinces I've had at shows. We ARE a pretty cool bunch!
