Hi all

I've started painting Palo's bust of Wilhelm Bittrich bought from MMM.

I'm not well up in German uniform co lours so thought I'd ask what you thought about the colour I've used.

It just the first coat, done in oils mixing Paynes grey, Titanium white, a bit of ultramarine blue and a touch of mid green (can't remember the name)

What do you think?

Cheers

Vic

I've checked around and it seems that the pose that is portrayed in this bust is based on Bittrich in a sheepskin coat - I am near completion with this bust myself and stuck with grey but from what I gather Bittrich wore something of a less smart coat than is portrayed. I may be wrong.

Personally, because Bittrich is in the Arnhem trio from MMM, I think the grey is more apt and somewhat more apt for the figure.

Hi, I'm glad to paint.
Adding photos from which I came.
Look on the cap . The cap has a lighter shade. I mean standard color.
Suppose coat was darker in color and can be non-standard colors. It is quite dark.
We have already dealt with here. It's up to each of you what shade you choose.
I wish pleasant painting.
Palo

Hi Palo, thanks for you comment and photo. I see what you mean about the difference in shade. I am planning on doing uniform and hat a lighter grey but will now make the overcoat a bit darker on the next layer.

Adrian, thanks for your help :)

Not help just observation - looking at the photo Palo put up you can see the texture of the coat is sheepskin type - whereas the model is smooth - thats why chose to do a leather look which is more apt for the time of year at Arnhem - it was autumn not winter and Bittrich would have probably been in a normal weight coat.
