Hi everyone been some time since i posted a figure and this is my latest work, figure sculpted with magicsculpt over milliput base. The M4 was scratchbuilt from brass tubing ,styrene and Magicsculpt.
I dont think i caught the likeness fully of the character as the nose is slightly too long, something i will learn from and improve for the next sculpt.

All critique welcome.

Hiya Steve,
It's very difficult to translate a 2D photo into a 3D sculpt, and i think what you've done is superb!
One of the first lessons I was taught when I was at art college (back in the good old early 90s when education was free!) was to draw what you see, not what you think you see. I have to say that, not so much now but certainly in the past, one would notice too many sculptors 'making up' how they think cloth would hang and fall over the human body rather than how it actually does. Many figure manufacturers, particularly in the 1/35th market, still churn out figure after figure with the same old formulaic, unrealistic and wooden representation of cloth over skin and bone, which may look good on a competion table (to some!..) ....but isn't actually advancing this hobby in any way or form.
Fortunately we have never had it better in terms of the raw talent out there (in particular I'm talking 'Platoon',.....way to go Demchenko!) and the future has never looked rosier!
Basically what I'm saying is look..look...look...reference.. reference...reference... THAT is the key to successful sculpting, and Steve, that is what you've done! Rock on Tommy!
All the best,
Jon.

#GUY..Thanks mate next time i will give more effort to capturing the portrait,my next project is a 120mm ww2 Brit para and a 1/10 bust brit para,i am working on the weapons for both first then move onto sculpting the figures.

#DAN..Thankyou for the comment mate it is much appreciated.

#JAY..So glad you like it,thankyou.

#JONATHAN..The points you made about reference and replicating what you see is something i have just recently put into practice after studying a book on drawing faces,i found you could transfer the same tecniques to sculpting.
Thankyou for the comment and complimment.

Thankyou all
