While awaiting delivery of a plastic kit for a commission build I started a couple of Ken Farrar's neat demi-ronde/flat pieces. This one represents the infamous western character "Billy the Kid" and is based on an old tin-type picture purported to be him - in fact, up to recently the only known photo of him. Another group photo has recently come to light in which it is believed one of the characters sat round a table is him.
There is a great deal of myth around William Bonney (or McCarty, or Antrim - all names he was known by) but much of it is bunkum. Bonney was a bad-ass, no doubt about it, and worked for the McSween faction in the Lincoln County war. That he killed several men, including Deputies Bill Ollinger and J W Bell during his escape from captivity is documented. However, the other dozen and a half he is credited with are open to conjecture.
History records that Billy met his end at the hands of Pat Garrett, another one-time bad-ass turned lawman, and a one-time acquaintance of his. Some believe Garrett set up another young lad of Billy's age to claim the large reward offered by Governor Lew Wallace for the Kid's apprehension DOA, but again, it all adds to the myth.
Anyway, history lesson over, here's BTK painted in Vallejo acrylics. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of sessions, and full marks to Ken Farrar for the quality sculpt, and for depicting him "the right way round"
Thanks for looking in
