Hello,
Today i lay the last hand on this awesome sculpt of Carl Reid. This was a joy to paint. I really hope i did this bust justice.
Still i have doubts for some snow on him or not.
Thanks for looking and commenting.

Marc, this chap looks the part! His leathers and the coat look very well rendered. His 5 O'clock shadow looks convincing as well. I'm not certain the deeper red/maroon of the cheeks looks quite right to me. It looks like it could use a tad more blending and it seems a bit dark (the red color that is) to my eye. the end of his nose could also use a bit of red maybe, just to push that freezing cold look. Over all very well done!

Thanks Jay.
Gonna look over that again. Maybe some skincolor faded into the "maroon"will do the job.

A few minutes ago i did that fading of some skincolor into the maroon. Well, i must say, thanks. it looks very convincing.
The nose tip is darkend some more, (you could hardly see it in the picuters, but it was there) with red and yes, it gives something more.

hi marc
i do think some snow would add to the look of this bust, the white may set off the pale cold skin tone and help it look that little bit colder . its just what i think .
however you have done a great job, i like him very much

Marc, great painting and nice work on the moist eyes, gives him a wind swept look. IMHO I would also go with a sprinkling of snow over his hat and shoulders just to finish it off.

Cheers Ken

Nice

Hi Marc, this is a good standard of painting.
The leathers are great as is the uniform blending.
I take it from the sheen you used oil paints?

The only thing I would say is the rank chevrons on his arm were of a pale white/yellow colour. I think maybe the chevrons and the shoulder insignia look too white.

Some really excellent techniques you've done there.

Marc

I think this is one of your best works, especially the leathers. I would agree that a _very small_ bit of snow would really finish it off well.

Always liked this bust and you did a very good job painting him Marc. Love the jacket and the gloves My only critique would be on the 5 o clock shadow. Looks pretty dark and flat on the photos. Beautiful work overall.

Hi Marc,

I think you've done a good job painting this bust mate, but I agree with Grant about the corporal's stripes being the wrong colour. I've attached a pic of British Army corporal stripes from WW1 to illustrate the difference. I hope this helps.(y)

Marc,

You have done a Fantastic job on the Fusilier. He looks darn cold. It makes me shiver when I look at him!

It's always satisfying to see our figures painted and on display - thanks for posting. I hope you enjoyed painting it =).

regards,
Paul

A great bust and it takes a lot for any figure post 1900 to impress me! I do agree with Grant, though, that the corporal's chevrons are rather too white and could be warmed up a little, perhaps with khaki.
