Sambaman
A Fixture
Well, I have to give a HUGE virtual "Hat's Off" to a couple figure painters and friends of mine, Adam Balough, Rusty Nail and Bob Davis. We all just recently attended the 2010 Wonderfest competition this last weekend in Louisville, KY and these guys simply cleaned house!!!
Adam scored a merit for his killer vampire hunter. If I'm not mistaken Bob walked away with a Merit, 4 bronze medals, a silver medal and a gold medal (for his Nosferatu flat that had them pushing their jaws back into place)! Rusty smashed the competition with a silver, a gold, and two of the coveted specialty awards, Best Zombie and Best Horror subject (Rusty, correct me if I missed any here). Keep in mind, the Horror category is one of the highest entered and most popular categories in this contest. With his OUTSTANDING Boris the Werewolf bust not only did he take one of only 3 or 4 (if I remember correctly, and Bob is one of the others!!!!!!) of the golds given in that whole category, he took best of Horror with that same bust. A real achievement. They are VERY stingy with their golds at this contest, so it's a real statement that these guys could pull off what they did.
This was my first time attending this great show and I had a blast! I really appreciate Bob, Rusty and Adam letting me tag along for the duration. It was great seeing you guys again, and hope we all do it again next year! I would encourage many of the figure painters out there who have not been, to go and check out some of the outstanding work that was on display there. You might even have to duck Jason from Friday the 13th in the isles of the vendors area, but it's worth the effort!
Here's a link to my photo gallery of pictures form the show!
