Yes, I know, there was/is a thread for this...but from 2004? 95% of the replies are 10 years or older.
Let's post some pictures of our our own personal space, where we relax with our hobby. Maybe describe how you work or why it is setup that way. I always enjoy talking/reading shop!

Here is mine:

View of my corner of the living room. Computer desk no-one was using as they all have laptops and tablets now.

Main work area - Brush holder was an old and little used remote caddie. I added some wood and drilled some holes:

Shelves - I re-purposed a shot glass shelf I had. Not the greatest for paint bottles as almost half the shelves are too short for Reaper/Vallejo squeeze bottles. I came up with another system for those. Mail box, I ordered some years ago to get rid of the paper clutter in the kitchen, and my wife hated it, so it was regulated to my bedroom until now. (yes, I label everything...a bit OCD)

Various shelves house my supplies - in tower area of desk are my hand tools, red lid Pyrex containers are my wet pallets. I like having small dedicated pallets, for example, one for metallic, one for flesh and so on.
Rolling plastic case - sculpting/bits/resins/scenery/scenery craft paints, etc. I keep my reaper paint cases within reach here(on top)

I'm still trying to find my painting style. I started with a small set of Vallejo game color paints. I wasn't too impressed with their chalkiness and desire to separate. I picked up some reaper triads and their HD paint line. This is a good deal (you basically get the case for free) I decided I like that system(paints as well as the storage system) and have since purchased an additional case and added some scale 75 sets

A tip I got from watching the "pegaso girl" miniature mentor video, the artist used Liquitex artist tube acrylics. The good ones have a lot of similar qualities in common with oils. I really like the vibrant colors and sheen for skin and horses. I'm addicted to them now and they have become part of my painting style. I went crazy at Micheal's last weekend, added another 15 tubes during one of their 50% off sales!

Of course, you need a computer near-by for reference:

some things "in queue"

Hope everyone enjoyed looking. Now post yours!!...please! :)

Can we do this a different way please Larry?

Imagine a B52 has just dropped a full load on a target special delivery, and the dust has settled so thickly that all that remains clear is survivors footprints.
now....stand a model in one clear footprint....
and a bottle of vallejo in the other.
Now....do you really want me to send the photo? ;)

Paul.

yes, I still do. Mad genius and all, that is what I'm picturing....and are these giant footprints???

Your work area looks super clean and tidy. I hope you could keep it the same after a few projects. Mine was clean and tidy before but after working on some figures, RC cars, garage kits and restoring antique Samurai dolls at the same time. It looks like this:

My work table is 4 by 8 feet. The closet is stacked with kits. Two glass cabinet stand next to the closet full of buildups. Three book shelves on the back wall full of reference books and stuff. I need to clean it up one of these days.

Yellowcat,
Bruce Lee looks like he's ready to nunchuk your a$$ if you don't give him some room..he looks pretty pissed off.
And 4x8 feet. That is the size of my pool table. Wow, lots of elbow space...jealous

Seriously though, you seem like a busy man. And antique samurai figures? that sounds way cool. Would like to see some pictures of such things.

I have a decent size painting studio and figure storage areas, all inside my house. I also have my resin casting equipment in half the workshop. I am still yet to assemble more storage racks and unpack the rest of my figures that have been in storage over a year. I have a desk that I paint at and a separate desk that I use for cleaning up figures, base work and prepping moulds, this keeps any mess away from the painting area. I also have a vented spay booth in the painting area for all airbrush work.

Gloves... Lol.
I wear nitrile gloves all the time when painting !

... Because I use acrylic paints and I do not want to contaminate the paint surface with my natural skin grease. I mean with big heavy metal figures, you have no real other choice than to use your hand to handle the figure. For example, if you need to place it upside down to paint something in the crouch area.

At first it feels weird to use gloves but after a while, you just forget them.

Wow Tommi! I wouldn't know how to operate half those machines. I know you do this for a living, but damn.

Question on all those figures. Are they personal or commissioned and are they painted but just stored in the box or to be painted?

Hi Larry

I am also a collector of figures so most of it is my own collection, some are commissions for my collectors around the world. Its always nice to have the choice and pick something off the shelf to paint, when I get to do this for myself again is another question!

Cheers
Tommi

Thought I'd show my work area...the helmets are for atmosphere. Working in oils and acrylics, it's a spare room as I have no kids at home just me and the missus.

This closet also goes around the corner with some more shelves with Stuff on. Note more books on the top.
The other half of the room is Maureens for her knitting/Quilt books and sewing machine and supplies.
