Hello Planeteers:

Scale Model Factory, in collaboration with Planet Figure, is proud to present a new project designed to help improve any one's level on painting miniatures. After a big success in the USA, now for the first time in The Netherlands, we will host a figure painting class with the renowned acrylics painter Fernando Ruiz, from Barcelona, Spain.
Figure artists in the south of Europe attend workshops and seminars between shows to learn from talented artists that share their techniques to help other painters to improve their skills.
We, Scale Model Factory, have decided to try giving the same chance of live learning to painters here for the first time.More than just your painting demo at a show, this will cover all the basics and advanced techniques demonstrated by Fernando, who is known for his box-arts for Art Girona and Historc Art.

This class will consist of 8 hour sessions over 2 days and will cover the painting of a 54 mm figure from start to finish with acrylics’ techniques. The class size will be kept to a minimal, giving Fernando time to assist each participant to follow along.
Due to the fact that most of us don’t speak Spanish, it is good to know that the course is in English.
Included in the cost of the seminar will be a top quality 54mm miniature, a set of top quality brushes and a base to mount the figure for each participant. Fernando will bring a sample of a painted figure and will paint another one live so everybody can see the process. After the seminar, every pupil gets a SBS of the miniature.

Veteran painters or new painters, the instruction and course is open to every level of painting.
Also we plan to do some other general activities in order to relax, hang out and try to get to know each other in a good atmosphere.

I made same course with Fernando in Art Girona Workshop, and only can say that if you can, do not miss this opportunity.

I improve my painting skill to a next level, and Fernando explain it very well, with special attention to all theirs students.

Hello Planeteers,

Let’s call it not the day after before but after a great weekend since last weekend I attended this workshop and I still need some time to recover (y).

In my opinion it has been a great success, sitting together with a great bunch of people who love to paint miniatures and eager to learn everything about painting.

We had two exiting days of getting to know “all” the secrets of figure painting told by a very inspiring teacher who has taken his time to go by each individual and tell each of us where he has gone wrong on the miniature or what needs to be done to make it more perfect and realistic.

I very much liked the concept of Fernando showing us the steps how to paint each part of the miniature bearing in mind that it was only his own interpretation on how to do that.
Insisting we should create our own style and not just copy him.

We now all know more about highlights and shading etc..
I don’t want to go to much into further detail other than that we all enjoyed not only attending this workshop but also the great skills of Fernando. I can tell you he is a real expert!

This weekend I certainly improved my skills about acrylic painting although I realize that there is still a long way to go.

I am sure the guys in Brazil will have a great time in May.

Many thanks to my club Scale Model Factory (SMF) for organizing this event with special thanks to Patrick!

@Fernando
Many thanks for all your patience, cheerfulness and kind words to all of us!
See you in Gerona (?)

Grtz,
Hans van der Does

Now, I cannot say anymore that the figurepainting is not common in the Netherlands.
Great to have some more figurepainters.
Only one remark: you all paint with acrylic instead of oil:lol:
