Hi there ,

Are you using Acrylics or Oils ?

There is a great article in No 8 of the Scale Model Handbook series from Mr Black productions in which there is an article using the latest from Tommys War ...have you seen this ?

Nap Thanks I have seen the series of books but haven't picked one up yet. I did get a TW fig at our last show , they look to be very well done. I will be using oils for the fig indicated in thisa thread. There seems to be a variation in the color of the uniform, I'm just looking for some suggestions.

I use oils and mix one part white, one part burnt umber, one part yellow ochre and a tiny bit of black. I hope that this helps.

All the best,
Elia :)

Both Andrea and Vallejo have "English Uniform" acrylic paint. Either works very well.

I'm not convinced by Vallejo's English uniform... Looks pretty good for WW2 era Battledress, but not for WW1 Service Dress, it's too Brown and needs a touch of Green I think.

I mixed cadmium red, with burnt umber, a little touch of blue, cadmium orange, Yellow ochre.
I used this on the Carl Reid bust of the Gordon Highlander Piper.
If you want it more green then mix some green trough it as I did on the vignette Face to the Marne.

Hi,

Gunther Sternberg uses this mix:

"The colours are 70826 (German Cam. Med. Brown), 70830 (German Fieldgrey WWII)and 70950 (Black). I mixed them for the base colour of the uniform. Mix these 3 colours of your choice or wishes. So you can choose between the colours like more brownish or a green tone."

on the other hand Iguazzu uses this mix:

"Base English Uniform Lights: add Japanese Uniform and later Sunny Skin. Shadows: Chocolate Brown and black (a bit)"

All these are Vallejo Acrylics.

I'm in the process of trying Gunther mix.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
