Adrian - I found a good reference on the internet (can't remember where) with all the dimensions, a simple search should find it, if not I could send a copy. Divided the dimensions by 24 for the 75mm figure. I also had a helmet in the garage.
I then cut a thin aluminium disc and drilled a hole through the middle, then stuck it on a thin dowel so I could manipulate it. Built up the crown with Milliputt, sculpted, filed and sanded to shape.
Nap - I have got tons of bits from previous figures I have made, after all I have been doing this for about 40 years!!! I tend to pose figures a bit with lead wire/solder armatures. Then Milliputt as it can hold the most remarkable detail. There are 3 stages with Milliputt -
1. When you have just mixed the putty you can fair it in to the armature/basic figure with either a wet paint brush or for an even better effect cellulose thinners
2. I heat the figure under a lamp on my desk until the putty takes on a clay like consistency and doesnt't stick to the tools. Wet tools work even better, or the late great Sid Horton used to swear by talc. You could smooth detail again with the water/thinners brush.
3. Harden off the Milliputt under the lamp. Then carve with scalpels, files, sandpaper, wire wool.
I have got lots of sculpting tools but still mostly use about 2 or 3 with steel wire in dowel that I made donkeys years ago.
Hope that helps
