Oh yeh this is really looking much better now Mike and you are definetely in the right direction for a trench theme soldier.

Im kinda swinging toward leaving the helmet also, just has so much caracter to it and adds to the distressed look of the soldier.

Are you painting in oils or acrylic ?

Thanks guys I really appreciate the encouragement and kind words. I am so glad for the comments that lead to the change. I haven't changed the helmet yet I am going to have some other painters look at it in person before I strip all the work on it.

I am undercoating in acrylics and doing the finishing in oils.

Hey guys sorry no painting update but I have been working on a bigger project. Here is the link to a news story that aired tonight in Tulsa of my new restaurant. We opened yesterday to great reviews and I had to work more than I wanted but I guess that is the point.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes our concept is quickservice food (sounds better than fast food)

was able to get a little paint on him today. I have started on the highlites & shadows of his uniform. I haven't touched the satchels around his neck except for the base coat. Are these satchels made of canvas? Please post any comments or point out stuff I have made the wrong color or something.

Mike the bandoliers are canvas, and the grenades are in sandbags so that would be hessian/burlap.

After much debate of changing the helmet and making it more proper for the time it was being worn I finally did some work on it. I did some careful stripping of it to try and save some of the texture I created so it would still have a roughed up abused apperance. Here is what I have so far, it is cleaner and newer looking and actually matches the uni a little better. Please give some advice on where I should go with it as it looks a little boring to me right now.

Mike, I prefer the "new" helmet. I think all you need now is some scratches, and some dirt.
