WWII US Ranger Bust

Hola Guys,

Here is my latest efforts in painting. I havent had a chance to paint much lately, but while painting some other projects this bust was started. Its painted in acrylics and weathered with pastells.

Scale is 1/12th (150mm) and the bust was sculpted by Michael Saez and is available from Metal Models.

Nice job!

Lookin' good Anders! The eyes especially. You managed to put some "light" into the irises.

I find that the eyes "pop" a little better if you put a nice black or very dark brown line along the lower edge of the upper eyelid to represent the eyelashes.

Guy, yes he will be with me to Atlanta. I won't have much of a display this year though, too much sculpting and not enough painting!

Thanks, yes I agree, generally I do a darker brown for the upper eyelid and a lighter for the lower. This case I screwed around with the eye whites and the outlining so much that once I got it with the base color I just stuck with it. Will try harder next time though!

Looks absolutely great Anders!

Next to the black line under the upper eyelid, I think on your next figure you can even go one step further with all the very deepest shadows and darken them still a bit more. This is not a criticism on this bust as the placements of light and shadow is spot-on and you already got a big amount of contrast and life in it, but just the next step for the next figure I think...

To compliment the wonderfull weathering, maybe a 5 o'clock shadow might give him even more character?

I will try to make it more extreme next time around.

I opted not to add more 5'oclock then I did, as hes only been in the field for a day, didnt want to make him look like hes been there for weeks, as he is wearing specific gear from D-Day, and I dont think they wore the gas brassards (thing on left shoulder) for much time after the landings. Thats not saying it wouldnt look better with more, but it is the reasoning behind it.
