X belt metal plate what was it made off

Hi Guys
I am at present doing o bust of the 44th Foot Gandamack ,as a point of reference what was the x belt chest plate made of and the chain,I have painted it but not sure if I have painted it the correct color is brass or gilt.
Any help would be great .

Hi Taff,
Happy New Year Mate.
There are a few variations with these plates but in thw main they are brass backed with mixed materials for regimental badges.
I hope that this is of some use to you.

Hi guys were the cross belts a type of buckskin then had white blanco put on them ,just wondering if wear in the field rain etc ,made the blanco come off and show more of the lighter buckskin .

Hi Chris,
Yes, you are right on the money.
I tend to go for a scrubbed on patchy grey/brown.
I am in the process of doing one at the moment I will get a snap a bit later.

Hi Chris,
We are quite a way south of Normandy just about as central France as you can get. It's a small Medieval town full of history from Turks/Ottoman to Knights Templar and of course French resistance and German Occupation.

Here is a shot of a piece I am working on, it is a fine 200mm 7th Fusileir by the late and great Pete Morton......very early dayds but you may get the gist of where I am heading. You will pick out several odd colours that I have used in the hope that it passes as grubby.
I really like the figure that you are working on and hope that there is something that you can use here.
Looking forward to your progress on this little gem.
